So, I've always hated Cartoon Network. I think their shows lack creativity and style, but most of all, they are simply not entertaining. I mean that; it's pretty bad.
But...my opinion of this network has changed...slightly. I still hate it, but after discovering this show, I've realized the potential of what it could do.
What is this show, you ask?
Over the Garden Wall.
It was a mini series that premiered about four years ago and oh my word, it is amazing.
I stayed up late (on a school night no less) to finish it, but boy it was worth it.
The basic premise is two brothers are lost in the "Unknown" and must find their way home. It sounds pretty simple, but it's actually quite deep.
The characters are well developed. My favorite (obviously) is Wirt, the older brother. There were so many moments in this show that I could relate to personally (again, sign of a good show) and his growth throughout the series was inspiring. (Also, Elijah Wood is amazing at voice acting. My word, he was phenomenal.) I didn't like Greg as much (part of it was his actor, who was an actual kid) but he warmed up to me at the end.
AND THE VILLAIN. HE WAS SO GOOD.
I mentioned this before, but they have an amazing cast for this show. Christopher Lloyd, Elijah Wood and Samuel Ramey voice a few of the main characters, and JOHN CLEESE makes a guest appearance on a couple episodes. (JOHN CLEESE! AHHHHH!)
Also, the music. One word, haunting. Whoever wrote it needs an award.
My one grip with it is that the episodes seemed a bit too short (11 minutes). The conflict felt like it wrapped up too fast in some episodes. But really though, I'm impressed this show left me wanting more.
I'll stop fangirling over it, but bear in mind, these are my first impressions of the show. Later on, I'll probably realize this show is terrible and quit watching/reading fan theories, but RIGHT NOW I CAN'T STOP LISTENING TO THE SCORE.
Anyways, Lynn the Fangirl out.
Oh and Happy Reformation Day everyone! :D
