Marie had confused the brothers. She wasn't freaked out that they could see and she wasn't afraid. She just sat there... and giggled? Marie was an odd duck indeed in Aenon's eyes. She hopped up and grabbed Jamie's hand while sticking her tongue out at his brother, "Either way you're not getting him."
Aenon huffed and pushed himself up higher like some odd form of a pushup only he was looking up, "And if I say no? You're forgetting Marie you live on an island that is surrounded by the sea. You can't leave without me knowing and you can't stay away from the sea."
Marie frowned but he had turned tail and swam with a splash. She dodged the water and looked down at Jamie, "Do you hate that he's right just as much as I do?"
Jamie nodded and led his female savior inside to get ready for shopping.
They had been gone for too long. Aenon watched the fairy anxiously waiting to see his brother step off. As much as he hated to admit it he'd rather have his brother safe in that woman's house than off somewhere on the mainland. He worried his lip as a storm appeared on the horizon.
A blue haired head popped out of the water next to him, "Hey Non, what's taking you so long? Didn't ya say you only had to get your brother? Where's the little squirt?"
The elder brother shook his head, "On land somewhere with that woman."
"What woman?" Shell seemed to perk up.
"Dude she's a human."
"Humans can't mate but they are sexy to look at." His friend argued and crossed his hands behind his head.
Aenon just shook his head and watched the dock. Where were they?
He heard a horn and saw the last car pull off the ship. It was a rusty beat up old car but still somehow ran. He visibly relaxed when he recognized Jamie's laugh and turned, "Come on, let's go wait for them."
Shell questioned him all the way back to the small stretch of beach in front of Marie's house. They floated on a small eddy next to one of the large boulders, "Dude enough with the questions."
Shell laughed, "You still talk like a landwalker sometimes Aenon, you know that?"
Aenon shook his head as he watched the car pull up, "I can't go back without him Shell. What would mom do? You know mermaids are sensitive enough as it is, especially since Jamie was the last child she could ever birth."
His friend nodded and showed utmost pity in his expression, "Yeah but there's a storm coming, where are we gonna wait it out?"
"We?"
"Hey I'm not leaving my best friend alone to guard a human."
Aenon looked at him gratefully, "Thanks man."
Marie threw the rag down on the ground in frustration, "That's it, I'm calling roof and window repair!"
She'd been mopping up water from the storm all morning and was in no mood to negotiate. Jamie watched silently as she pulled out her phone and quickly dialed a number. He began wandering around and slipped off to the beach.
Marie finished and came rushing out, "Jamie they're coming in a couple hours. What do you want to do while they're here?"
Aenon swore under his breath when Marie came and Shell whistled quietly, a thing Aenon slightly regretted teaching him how to do, "Fine human, no wonder your brother doesn't wish to leave."
Aenon groaned, "Too bad she won't let me take my brother back."
They saw her and Jamie race down the sand and start looking for a particular place. He watched as they came to a small alcove in the rocks where there was a small pool that was deep enough for someone to sit in.
They ran back to the house and emerged later when workers has arrived. He watched as they came back to the pool and as Jamie splashed in he realizes what they were going to do. Aenon watched in horror as she changed into a mermaid and Shell dropped the crab leg he'd been eating eyes wide.
