Aenon gave Marie a confused look, "The fair?"
She nodded excitedly since she hadn't gone since high school, "Yep, just think it's the perfect place for a romantic night without actually being romantic."
The green eyed man thought about this, it could work very nicely. The last time he'd been to the fair was when he'd taken Jessica, the only woman who'd ever loved him at one point, but it turns out she didn't in the end.
Marie sensed his drop in heart and cleared her throat before locking eyes with him, "We're going to have fun."
He seemed almost robotic now lost in his old memories as Marie threw a shirt at him along with some snacks for the car. She grabbed her sea green wallet and led him out to the car where Sue winked and waved them off. Marie laughed and made a show of being excited for her sister's sake.
As they waited at the dock for the fairy the blue eyed woman sighed, "Look, you can't keep going around all depressed. If I have to, and don't make me, I will stuff your mouth with cotton candy until you're on a sugar high and make you ride the tea cups."
He cracked a grin knowing she's the type to truly follow along with her words. He couldn't help it though as he began remembering everything at once. He'd left the day after his best friends funeral and never looked back. Now... Being on land for the second time since then he couldn't not think about it all.
Sighing he muttered, "Zack, I've never missed you so much man."
Marie only faintly heard a mumble and frowned, she was not going to be all depressed because her "date" was. Oh hell naw.
Pulling into the fairy she looked out the window wishing she could roll it down but the spray from the waves this close to shore would cause her to change. Settling with turning on the clunky air conditioner she hummed along to whatever song was playing in her head.
Aenon noticed this change in her usual self but didn't say anything. She seemed to be trying to help entertain herself during the whole fifteen minute fairy ride. He didn't say anything though until she turned on the radio after getting on dry land once more and pulling on to the highway. His eyes widened and he looked over at her, "No way, you like this kind of music too?"
It was the one station he listened to all through high school that drove his friends nuts. They just couldn't appreciate the multicultural music they played. Marie just gave him a wide pearly white grin and turned it up singing in perfect sync with the Greek song.
He didn't know what the words meant but Aenon knew them all to that particular song. He joined in singing loud and proudly on key with Marie, maybe today wouldn't be so bad.
They continued to sing like this the whole twenty minutes to the beach fair and they both ended up laughing, out of breath, and with dry scratchy throats by the end. He looked over at Marie from under his bangs, "Do you always sing like this?"
She was quieting her giggles, "Only every time I drive. Jamie found it quite funny the first time we went somewhere."
"I can see why, but I've worked up an appetite."
"Mmm me too, some crab and fries sound really good right now."
"Agreed."
The two walked into the fray of people and at one point all Aenon could see was the top of Marie's head, or at least what he thought was her until she turned around and happened to be some girl with three nose piercings. He worked his way through all of the people until he found her standing at the entrance to a little seafood shack waving for him to hurry up.
