The billowing white curtains of the floor to ceiling windows seemed to be as if sails of an ancient white ship. She had kept the windows open completely and stepped in through the door where a small path ran through a small mountain of boxes. Most of what was in the boxes were things she'd bought for her home and few were of her original belongings.

Marie swept through the rooms and into a bathroom with a large tub and shower. She began to run the water for the bath before turning to the boy, "Okay, why don't you take a bath to warm yourself up and I'll start something to eat?"

The young brown eyed child nodded, "Okay! I eat anything you make just like momma taught me."

She smiled, "Well I guess I'll have to do my best because I'm kind of in the mood for seafood, are you?"

The boy nodded happy as she stepped out and made her way to the kitchen thankful for the warm wind blowing through the house. She wasn't the best at gourmet dishes but when it came to simple seafood she was great. Marie managed a few pots at once as the mouth watering aroma filled the house. She didn't even look up from her endeavors of bread slicing as Jamie peaked around the corner, "Um, Marie? I don't have any clothes..."

Marie jumped, "Oh! That's right, here let me get an old shirt you can borrow. Then tomorrow we can get you some more."

With that the young woman proceeded to dig through the boxes until she found one of her dad's old college shirts she'd snagged. It was like a dress in the boy making her giggle.

The two awoke in the morning to the sound of seagulls. Marie was absolutely parched and Jamie was excitedly energetic. Both made their way to the kitchen and one ate while the other drank deeply. Marie felt woozy and only ate a bite of bread.

It wasn't until they'd went for a walk around the water's edge that the young woman felt better and Jamie began to splash around. Marie went to join him but the young boy insisted she stay dry. Marie rolled her eyes, "It's not like I'll get swept out to sea if I just dip my feet in."

Before Jamie could stop her she let a wave hit her feet and felt the wonderful sea breeze on her face.

The pain that she'd felt in her side the day before returned with a throbbing vengeance. Jamie ran over to the kneeling woman and a head of black hair followed with a smirk popped out of the water, "There ya are ki- there's not supposed to be anyone with you."

Marie looked at the man in the water. He swam closer riding a wave seemingly before he stopped leaning forward on his elbows. The man had eyes the color of sunlight shining through seaweed along with a proud clean shaven chin and olive skin. His coal colored brows furrowed as he looked from woman to child. The kid he knew as he was the kid's elder brother and appointed guardian, but the woman he didn't recognize from the people he knew lived on the island.

She had wavy black hair with streaks of brown only a few shades lighter, bright blue eyes that looked like they could bring a man to his knees, tanned skin that belonged to a five foot eleven inch tall frame, and a gorgeous full naturally dark lips. This woman, he decided, would look killer in a bakini.

Jamie pulled Marie away from the water, well guided her stumble, and glared at the man, "I'm not going and you can't make me ever."

The man in the water rose an eyebrow, "Kid I just have to get you in the water under the right conditions. Like now if I get you wet since you should've been in the water last sunfall."

Jamie rose his little chin, "No I wasn't."

"I saw you go in."

"Marie saved me."

Marie who was now recovered looked between them, "He was drowning! What kind of sane person would throw their son in the water? And what's this jibber jabber about water under the right conditions? And why does it hurt to touch seawater, answers now."

At the mention of drowning the man laughed and Jamie bit his lip. The man sank down to his stomach in water, "A child of a mermaid can't drown!"
