*Alex’s POV*
I looked up groggily at Lillia; “What? Where?” She bent down, laced her hands through mine, and kissed me before pulling me up to my feet. “My favorite place ever!” She danced around excitedly as I watched Vi slip on shoes and grab her phone. “I promised her I would take her today, Alex.” She informed me with the tone of a parent whose child was dragging them to a park. Lillia danced around the house in glee conforming to this scenario with a yellow rucksack flung over her shoulder, while I looked for my phone and woke the boys up to send them home. “Okay, let’s go; let’s go!” shouted Lillia grabbing my hand and Vi’s and speeding out the door of the flat.
Every ounce of my body was tired from the night before, and I couldn’t even think about anything but sleep. Still, Lillia was as excited as I’d ever seen her, and if this really was her favorite place, I wanted to soak in every bit of it.
*Lillia’s POV*
We jumped into a taxi, and I attempted to contain my joy. The movie theater was on the other side of town, and Vi rarely agreed to go with me, yet it was the one place I always felt happy. It was the first place we had gone when we first moved in to the flat; we had been hopelessly lost looking for a restaurant and had stumbled upon it. It was quaint, and old, and possibly a bit run down, but it was as adorable as could be. It had an old style display board in the front with the 3 or 4 movies it was showing. Inside they sold everything from popcorn to tea at a small stand downstairs and cocktails at an old-time bar upstairs. The theaters were large and green with gold encrusting on the ceilings, and what looked like a theater stage with a large movie screen pulled over it.
Vi and I had gone there anytime I was sad, and because I had been recently, even if I wasn’t at the moment, I still got a trip to the theater. There was something about it that isolated Vi and I from the rest of the world and from all my problems, something sacred and secret about it that kept out the demons of life. I knew taking Alex here could be a mistake; after all, if we ever broke up his memory would still be here, leaving me without any safe place to go free of him. Still, I wanted to share this part of me with him, and somehow I really felt that he would never break it. I glanced over at Alex sitting next to me; no, I didn’t think he could ever break me, nor could I break him.
*Alex’s POV*
I felt Lillia squeeze my hand, and I squeezed her hand back. “I can’t wait for you to see this place.” She whispered in my ear. “Neither can I.” I whispered back. She could tell I was tired, but I knew I wouldn’t miss this ever. No, anything Lillia shared with me made me happy, just to know that she felt well enough with me to do so. More than anything, I desperately wanted her to feel safe with me. She needed that, as I now knew, and I wanted to be that for her. I wanted her to trust me. I wanted her to show me everything she was, inside and out, every little detail. I wanted to know her guilty pleasures, what films made her cry, and who she played with as a child. I wanted to know what she feared most, and the magazines she read when she was bored, and what tiny things made her smile. She may have known that I was happy to see her favorite place, but little did she know that I was falling madly in love and I couldn’t stop myself no matter how hard I tried.
