Darkness was the first thing he remembered as he woke up in the hospital room. It was dark and he felt strange; he looked around the dimly-illuminated room and tried to make out something familiar to him, but he could not find anything and what made it worse was that he could not even feel anything. Panic rose inside of him and he started thrashing on the bed until he heard a voice, it was a sort of soothing voice, but he was not sure if he knew it. As the room was flooded with light, he shut his eyes instantly as the light appeared to affect his eyes. He heard the voice say,
"Oh, it appears the light affects you. Let me turn it down."
He somehow found his voice and he managed to utter something,
"Where am I?"
"We found you on the side of the road with your legs broken. We brought you in and you have been here ever since."
"How long have I been here?" he struggled to ask.
"Two years, do you have any idea about your name or age? How about parents?"
"No parents, but I remember that my name is Dylan... Dylan Xavior and I'm sixteen, well I guess I'm eighteen now," he answered groggily. He had opened his eyes more now and he looked at her. She was smiling at him, she had jet black hair which showcased some mix generation, Indian maybe, and she had dark brown eyes, a straight nose that complimented her small face and full pinkish lips. Her breasts were medium, and they brushed on his face slightly, it felt good and he was distracted for a brief moment but he managed to snap himself out of the trance he was in. She was very curvy. He tried to speak again but his voice came out in a rasp and she quickly brought him some water which he drank slowly then shook his head when he had had enough.
"When can I leave?" he asked.
"Well we'd like to keep you for some more tests then you can leave and by the way, I'm nurse Johnson, Simona Johnson," and she smiled.A year later Dylan left the hospital and he often went to visit Nurse Johnson. After some research and talking with people who knew his mother Dylan discovered the grilling truth of who he was. His father was the angel of death and apparently death had been missing for a long time and whenever his emotions were on overdrive he would transform into a grim reaper. His mother had been a young nurse in a local psychiatric facility where she met a young man who called himself Dominick Xavior and well she fell for him. Dominick's charm and charisma had caught the nurses' eyes but his mother had been the one to capture Dominick's heart. Further digging allowed him to find out that his mother had become pregnant and a fire started at the facility. When the fire had died down Dominick was nowhere to be seen again and Dylan's mother raised him until she died when Dylan was fifteen. On her death bed, she had told Dylan his father was the angel of death, but he did not believe her and at age sixteen he found out the hard way.
While walking on the road one evening Dylan started to feel strange. He had been thinking of his mother for a long time and the emotions finally came out. He looked down on his hands that appeared to be becoming dark. He shook his head, what was happening to him? His flesh seemed to disappear, and he could now see bones. He was so engrossed with the changes to his body that he did not hear the car signaling to him. He heard a voice in his head, but he didn't pay any attention to it. There was a flash of light and then everything went black.
*******Today was an ordinary day, as ordinary as any day was for Dylan as he ignored the dead couple whose souls still remained in the room that he was in. He was living in an apartment that his mom left for him in her Will and he had created his own business, Xavior Industries, which offered grief counseling to persons and helped them to move on from death. One could say that he was doing very well for a 20-year-old. He looked down from his apartment window in the street and he saw more souls. It was pretty hard to tell them apart from the living as most of them went on as if they were still alive. For some, however, their death could not be hidden as they wore the same tortured expressions of how they died, and those frightening characteristics would often make them very bothersome, but Dylan found ways around their appearances. Dylan's inner power was called Alex and it helped Dylan understand his powers, but its strength was not at full as Dylan required his father to unlock his powers.
He turned his attention from the window and went to the shower so that he could be ready for work. He had some cereal for breakfast and bolted through the door when he realized the time. In his rush he did not notice the men wearing black in the hallway; they did not make themselves known to him, so he didn't bother to question it. His inner self, Alex, warned him on a daily basis to be careful because his father's enemies were many and he could no longer hide because as he got older his essence began to grow and now that his powers had made themselves known people would be coming after him on the regular. Dylan ignored these warnings because he was so focused on work and had a meeting with a huge client today. However, if he had listened he would have known that the men he saw in the hall were after him and they were sent by the Vampire King's henchmen, the leviathans. Dylan stepped out in the sun and immediately reached for his transition lens and then he stepped into his black Lexus 2017 SUV. He drove off and took the highway so he could get to work quickly, and he was driving at a pretty reasonable speed when he discovered that he had a tail. He quickly sped up his car and so did the black Mercedes s550 coupe behind him. A chase began and the next thing Dylan knew his car was rolling off the road and into a ditch. He had bruises on his face when he crawled out of his car and he heard hurried footsteps walking towards him.
"I think he landed here," he heard one of them say and he quickly ran off into the bushes ensuring that no one was following behind him.
