- aliyah -
The crisp morning air and the smell of chocolate chip pancakes awoken me. I fluttered my eyes open, and there it was, my Father. He sat on the small sofa pushed in the corner of my room, he said something, however, I couldn't hear him. I tried to get up, tried to reach him, yet I wasn't able to move. As if I was paralyzed. I laid there on my bed as I stared at my dead Father.
I awoke abruptly, I was nearly sweating and gasping for air. It was early in the morning, as I glanced over at the time it showed as 8:45 am. Shit, I'm late for school.
- 9:48 am -
I opened the doors to the new high school. It looked very, posh.
I've actually got accepted into Vixton High and my Mom thought it was more convenient if we just moved to the area; mainly to start new. My grades were exceptional in my old school, giving me an opportunity to attend Vixton High as they offered me a full scholarship and to represent their prestigious high school. I, being late on my first day, does not come off as a good start.
"Aliyah Jones?" A voice spoke from behind. I turned around to see a tall, handsome student. He held a few books in his arms, one of them being 'After Dark' by Haruki Murakami.
"Sorry, um, do I know you?" I asked the good looking boy.
"No, although you are the talk of Vixton High." The unnamed boy replied. He softly chuckled.
"I'm Jackson by the way." He extended his hand out for me to shake, I momentarily paused for a short amount of time before shaking his hand. How weird. Does this kid usually shake hands with people who he casually meets in the halls? Perhaps it's a rich person thing. I'm not rich so I don't know.
"So um, Jackson, where is everyone? And when will the bell ring?" I asked. We both walked side by side as I looked for my locker and Jackson accompanying me.
"The first bell rings at 8 am. That's when everyone needs to be in their classes. Classes are usually sometimes 2 hours long or 40 minutes long. It depends on which class you are in. There are many classes in Vixton High, as it is a very prestigious school, reputation is important too. If you misbehave even on the slightest things, you could get easily expelled. However, students who come from wealthy families and have more power than the school board, they get away with it. So I would recommend not to interfere with the cocky, narcissistic kids here in Vixton High; they have benefits, Jones."
I nodded my head in understanding. "So, how do people know about me at this school?" I asked as we reached my locker.
"People talk, and we rarely have new students coming in. Plus, you sorta gotta reputation here since there have been rumors flying around that you are an extremely smart girl and will be representing Vixtion High. To some kids that means competition. If you are represented in Vixton High, you are easily able to get into any prestigious university, advancing your career in life, and ultimately becoming very successful in the future. It's just known facts from the former students who use to attend here." Jackson informed me.
"How do you know all of this?" I asked, confused because he seems to know far more than a student should know.
"I have benefits." He replied.
