One and a half year later
"So what are we going to do for his one year birthday?" Jennifer's face came through from my laptop.
We're having our weekly video chat. I'm sitting at my kitchen table in my small place behind Danny's family house. They were kind enough to give it to me when the baby was born.
I have baby Shawn on my lap. "I don't know yet," I answer.
Something shiny on Jennifer's ring finger catches my eye and I let out a gasp. " What is that!" I ask pointing at her finger.
A big grin stretches across her face. "James asked me to marry him." She squeals. I start squealing too and then baby Shawn join us as well. Until Danny and her husband walk in on us.
"What's with all the squealing?" Danny asked. Making Jennifer and I let out a happy laugh.
"Come look at Jennifer's rock. She and James is engaged." I say to Danny and Jennifer shows her the ring.
"Oh Wow, James has outdone himself. Congratulations." Danny says grinning.
The four of us has since become closer after the year and a half that passed. After Shawn's birth, I decided to stay on the little farm. Where I now help Danny's grandparents where ever I can. In the meantime, I've made contact with my home again.
And I'm starting to focus on the career that I studied for again. Being a civil engineer isn't as much use to me here, so I contacted my business partner, who is currently running our business. We had a long talk. And we have decided to put the past behind us.
And now I'm doing some things here and there. Hoping to expand it to the business to Spain.
Danny has since met the love of her life. And after getting married she went to live with him in town. He is a doctor there.
"Do you guys know when the wedding is yet?" I ask Jennifer excited.
"We were thinking next month. We don't want to wait." She says almost shyly.
"I'm so happy for you guys," I say still not trying to get the grin off of my face.
"Thank you." She responds and then scratches her head. I get the feeling that she wants to ask me something.
"What is it, Jennifer? Spit it out." I urge her.
"Will you be my maid of honor?" She asks quickly.
"Of course," I say, grinning from ear to ear.
She's still smiling, but I sense something else is up when a frown threatens to appear.
"Natalie." She said quietly. "The wedding is in London."
At first, I'm confused at that, but then I freeze at the realization of what that will mean. "I will have to go back," I say after a quiet pause.
"Please Nat, please don't say no. I need you here." She begs.
"Ok. I'll come." I say finally.
"It's not like any of them will remember me," I say quietly. I hope none of them remembers me.
"Yes, and you can just throw something on Shawn's face when you go out in public," Danny says next to me. Making me let out a nervous laugh.
Shawn's resemblance to his father is clear to anyone who knows him. Something that has been frightening. He won't even need a DNA test to prove that he is his.
I shake my head and then look at Jennifer. " When do you need me?"
"Yesterday." She says quickly. And I look at Danny.
"I'm going back," I say to her quietly.
She hugs me from behind. " You're going back. And you're going to be fine."
******************†******************
Two days later my plane lands on London soil. I navigate my way with Shawn through the airport.
When I finally make my way to baggage claim, I take the suitcase that is only packed with the necessities. I didn't want to have to struggle with luggage while I have Shawn with me. He is strapped to me with a sling. For once laying still after trying to look at everything around him in the airport.
As I make my way out the airport a familiar voice suddenly talks behind me. This can be happening right now, I panicked.
"I'm sorry I can't talk right now." The voice says.
Everything in me wants to run the opposite way. I'm a hundred percent sure it's his voice. It's like faith has decided to make my life a living hell again.
I start walking away in the opposite direction from him just so I can keep my back to him. But my name suddenly gets called.
It's from Jennifer. And her voice is coming from the direction in which he is going. She must have not seen him. Because I don't think she will be that stupid to call my name then.
I try to ignore her, but Shawn suddenly starts squirming in the sling. He had recognized his aunt Jenny's voice. He is ten months and very smart for his age.
He manages to get his head out of the sling and start looking around. Just as I spot Austin Ames staring my way. For a moment everything stops and it's just this terrible scene that's unfolding. Because Austin looks at the baby in my arms and I see confusion clouding his eyes.
Then Jennifer is in front of me. And my reaction to run kicks in again.
"We have to go! We have to go now!" I frantically say to her. I shove the suitcase in her hand. Then start to head where I think Jennifer came from.
Luckily for me, I head in the right direction because I see James leaning against a car. "Why are we running?" Jennifer asked. But I don't answer her.
"Go, go, go," I say to James when I'm near enough. He holds the door open for me and I throw the bags on the car seat before getting in quickly but safely in the car.
James takes the suite case from Jennifer and she gets in the front seat while he throws the case in the booth.
"Go, go go!" I say again when I feel like James is being too slow.
When he finally leaves the vicinity of the airport I let out a deep breath. "Fate hates me. I swear fate hates me." I say to no one in particular.
When the two people just stay quiet I start laughing. I can feel the hysteria bubbling in my stomach. "He saw me and he saw Shawn," I say when Jennifer looks at me.
She unbuckled her seat belt and then climbed into the back with me.
"Wait. Who saw you?" Jennifer asked.
"Austin Ames saw me. And he saw Shawn!"
