Sam

It was the same process everyday, waking up early just to head down to the Retirement Home and work until 10 at night before coming back home again just to pass out from sheer exhaustion. It felt great having something new in my schedule, a breath of fresh air almost and his name was Tyler. To be honest, I was a little shocked to see a kid in the knitting room, not many patients here got visitors or if they did, they weren't willing to participate in their activities so ill admit it was a little weird. He didn't even speak the whole time while everyone was knitting but instead watched. I was a bit nervous about being in an activity I had no clue about so I had to call Ashley over quite a few times to help me when I got a patient stuck on their work. It was all new and frustrations for me and I guess it showed because Ashley suggested that I learned how to knit. I waved away the ridiculous notion because why would I have any interest in that. I know that it would make me more useful and I would become less frustrated but I just couldn't see myself knitting. It was impossible to imagine.

I had already grabbed my schedule from the front desk even though I already knew it by heart.

11:30-12:30 || knitting duty.

12:35-1:35 || lunch duty

1:40-:340 || break/ free time

4:45-6:45 || Doctor visitation

7:50-9:50 || Medicine

10:00|| Put patients to bed

So I pretty much had a full plate but I didn't complain. I liked it here at Aspens, the serenity of the place was nice and it gave off a friendly aura.

I walked into knitting class early this time and helped Ashley set up the materials for the patients. By the time 11:32 rolled around, most of the patients were already in here. I glanced around the room for Tyler but he wasn't here. I let out a small sigh, maybe it was a one time thing. Class began to pick up as everyone got to work and I was mainly standing on the sidelines while Ashley did what she was good at.

"This is why you should learn how to knit." She said as she saw me doing nothing.

"I know, I know. I will just not today."

"Mmhm."

I just leaned on the wall and closed my eyes for a while. I was going to learn just when I felt ready. I heard the hinges on the door squeak open and close once again. I opened my eyes to see Tyler, standing in the middle of the floor. His eyes met mine before he looked away awkwardly and stood at the back once again. I watched him lean forward on his palms as he watched them knit. Ashely had walked over to him with some yarn but he shook his head no. She retreated to her work area leaving Tyler alone. I kept an eye on the class and him at the same time but eventually decided to ditch the class, it wasn't that interesting anyway.

This time I walked over to him and started the conversation.

"Hi."
