Sam
I had been checking in on Tyler's grandmother every time I got the chance. I felt like I had to because he wasn't here to check on her himself. Besides, what are friends for.
"Muriel it's feeding time. I hope you like oatmeal." I came through her door pushing a tray full of food.
"My names Muriel isn't it?" she glanced up at me looking confused.
I let out a small sigh. "Yes, yes it is." I placed her tray beside her bed.
I wasn't entirely sure on what her condition was but all I knew was that she had some sort of tumor growing in her brain and it was messing up her memory as well as affecting her health greatly. I sat down beside her bed as she ate and I, well I thought.
Tyler hasn't come back in 3 days and it started to worry me. With his grandmothers health deteriorating quickly as time went on, he might be too late to say goodbye. Id hate for that to happen to him. I've also taken over his knitting duties, trying my hardest to finish this before the week was over.
"You know...I don't think I like oatmeal." Muriel said, scrunching up her nose but still taking another bite out of her food.
I smiled slightly in her direction. "You could always make it taste a bit better by adding sugar and a bit of cinnamon. My mother use to do that for me."
Muriel looked up at me and smiled back. "If you'd be so kind as to do that for me, I'd appreciate it greatly."
"I will." I hauled her tray out of her room.
I stopped on the way to the cafeteria and made my way to the knitting center. I don't know why I suddenly decided to go there but here I was, standing just outside the doors. Slowly, I pushed them open and saw a small circle of residents knitting. Ashley stood in the corner with her own work. I let my eyes wander over the entire group and a light bulb immediately went off in my head.
"Ashely!" I shouted in a whisper across the class so I didn't disturb any of the workers but I guess I wasn't quiet enough because a few turned and gave me the evil eye.
Ashley put her work down and made her way towards me.
"What do you want Sam? It isn't your shift yet." she stated with her hands on her hips. "And why do you have oatmeal?"
"I need your help with something. Something big!" I exclaimed which earned a few shush's from an elderly couple a few feet away.
"How big? and you still didn't explain why you have oatmeal in your hands."
"It would require everyone in my knitting session to work together and the oatmeal's for Muriel. Speaking of Muriel, I need to get this to her! I'll be back."
"But you never told me what your idea was!" Ashley yelled after me but I was in a hurry so I just responded with a "later." before leaving the knitting room.
