After visiting with David's family, we went over to my place and saw my parents, which was nice. I did just see them like 3 weeks ago, so it's not that big of a deal. They are, however, not the happiest I'm moving across the country.
They want me to stay in Chicago since all of my family lives in Chicago. Luckily though, I called them when I found out that I was moving there, so we didn't have to have the awkward talk in person.
They were happy to see David and Ilya though, as they haven't been around since high school. David also helped assure them that everything would be fine and that we would come back and visit as much as we could. Seeing as how David never comes back here, I know if I come back, it'll likely be by myself, but I don't really mind.
We head over to Shawn's next, and I'm so excited to see him. I feel like I haven't seen him in forever.
I knock on the door, and David is off to the side with his camera rolling, which I can't help but chuckle about. Anything to get a good clip.
Shawn opens the door, and he immediately engulfs me into a hug.
"Natalie I missed you so much," He says and I'm confused by his reaction. I thought he'd be more shocked.
"Are you not surprised I'm here?" I ask after giving him a peck on the lips.
"No I actually had David help me with something," He says glancing at David. I look back at him, and he just smiles sheepishly. All of a sudden, Shawn kneels down on one knee, with a ring in his hand.
"I already talked to your parents. Natalie, baby, I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?"
What the actual fuck is happening? I'm so confused. This is so out of the blue. I can't even register any complete thoughts because, what the fuck? Two weeks ago he wanted to break up with me for moving across the country for a job. But now suddenly...
"Um Shawn can we talk in private please?" I say awkwardly, and he looks confused getting up.
"Oh yeah sure," He says, leading me into his room. I can hear Ilya and David whispering behind me, but I don't even pay attention to them.
"What's up?" He nervously scratches the back of his head.
"Why are you doing this now?" I ask."What do you mean?" He plays dumb, and I could see right through him.
"Tell me the truth about this entire thing," I say, starting to get angry that he's beating around the bush.
He sighs before he starts speaking as if he's telling the biggest secret.
"Your parents and I want you back here Nat. So we talked, and we have been dating for 3 years. Let's be real, we all know that marriage is in the future for us," He says a little too cockily.
"So, you decided that proposing just two weeks after you wanted to break up was a good idea?" I ask with my hands resting on my hips.
"I was just trying to scare you, baby. I would never break up with you," He says standing up, pleading with me. But I'm just not having it. It was all a scheme set up by my parents. I bet there's more to the story about it too.
"What else did they say?" I ask."Who?"
"My parents," I raise my voice slightly, trying to get the point across."Nothing of course," He says. However, I took a legal class in college, and one unit we covered was how to figure out if someone's lying. Let me just say, he's lying with flying colors.
"If you don't tell me the truth, I will walk out of here and never talk to you again," I threaten, and I see panic rise in his eyes.
"They offered to pay off my student loans. Natalie, I'm so desperate for that. You know my family doesn't have the money to be paying them off," He says looking down. I look at the ring that he's still holding in his hand, and notice that it was my grandmothers, which of course I didn't mind, but he was given everything by my parents to do this stupid proposal."I can't believe you," I whisper, in complete shock. The only reason he proposed was to get his student loans paid off. The only reason my parents offered was to keep me in Chicago. I guarantee they asked him before Shawn called me back the second time saying he screwed up and wanted a second chance. Ridiculous. And incredibly selfish on both sides.
"I'm sorry," He says still not making eye contact with me.
"No, I'm sorry," I say, not giving him a second glance and walk out his front door.
"Natalie wait!" I hear him yell, as I just keep walking toward Ilya's car.
David and Ilya look between us shocked, as I hear Shawn's feet stomping on the ground.
"Let's go," I say jumping in the back seat, waiting for the two boys to get in.
I will say that drive was probably the most awkward drive for them. Neither one is good with this kind of thing. I remember in high school, I dated a guy named Noah. He broke up with me and the closest thing to sympathy I got from them was 'want us to beat him up?'The thought brings a smile to my face and seeing Ilya and David awkwardly look straight ahead and not move was actually hilarious. So naturally, I start laughing.
They both jumped and looked back at me as if I've lost my mind. Ilya pulls into a Walmart parking lot, expecting me to pour my heart out to them. But I'm just not ready to tell them about how the proposal was for my parents and not us.
"Y'all can chill," I say laughing still, and the visible relief radiated off of them as they too started joining my laughter. And there we were, now sitting in a Walmart parking lot, laughing our asses off.
Why?
Because I'm slightly psycho.

It's early!!!
Also, I totally was going to make it so that she walked in on Shawn cheating on her, but since people guessed it, I changed it last minute!!
So props to y'all who guessed it
