Tuesday afternoon...
For the second time today we were heading back to the town square. The town has been in chaos today and this information from the government will only give the poor children hope that everything will be okay. But it wouldn't be right to keep it all to ourselves, everyone should know what's happening. But if one thing is for sure I'll get to the bottom of whatever is going on in this town. David pulled the car into the town square and we all got out. David and I set everything up and we were praying that it would work.
"Okay go Elizabeth" David said.
"Hello, is anyone there? Hello this Elizabeth Smith, we're all gathering in the town square, please come immediately we have news from the government that everyone should hear, please check homes along the way in case you find any young kids, and to all the young kids if you can hear me, please try your best to find someone or come to the town square, if not we'll be checking all homes to make sure no one is left behind. Please we must find each other"
After a few minutes people started gathering, the confusion was written all over their faces.
"You okay guys?" I asked all my siblings.
"This is all feels like a bad dream that I can't wake up from" Jenny said.
"I wish mom and dad were here, they'd know what to do" Lewis added.
"I want to go home" Selena cried, Spencer along with her.
"Hey guys, I know how hard this is not having mom and dad, I miss them just as much as you put I promise I'm not going to leave you, I'll always be here for all of you" I replied. As we all hugged.
My heart was breaking. But right now was no time to be weak, not only was my siblings relying on me but the rest of this town to bring everyone together and get things organised.
"Hey we think everyone is here you should start explaining" David said.
"Okay, watch after them until I get back" I said to David.
I slowly made my way through the crowds of children and stepped up onto the statue in the middle of the town square.
"Attention everyone!" I yelled. "I know how confused you all must be, trust me I'm just as scared. But my family and I tried to escape the walls of our small town and we found guards. Guards who were armed and ordered by the government to insure none of us escape. They're trying to keep this disease contained within Liberty Hills. But we've been given orders from the government, things to do to make sure we can escape this town soon"
I stopped as I heard the cries from children, I saw the fear across everyone's faces.
"First thing we need to do is burn all the bodies of the infected. All those who are able will help carry the bodies to Old Meldrum's farm where we'll all gather to say a final goodbye. Second thing is we need to clean all the blood spilled from the infected and third we need to do is remain calm and find everyone. We must check each and every house to make sure no one is alone or has been left behind, we should all have someone to be with during these difficult times. Now please if you're able start carrying the bodies to Old Meldrum's farm and if not just start looking for people and bringing them along with you. Lastly let's take a moment to pray for all the beautiful souls lost today"
Silence. No one spoke for those moments, only cries could be heard. I knew that the government weren't going to let us out as simply as that, they'd have to create a cure, but without a sample of the disease they can't do that and they clearly haven't taken a body from the town. Which left it to us, the high school students who were now left to clean up this mess. People began leaving together to gather up all the bodies. I knew that in order for me to create a cure I'd have to not burn a body, but the only question was whose body.
