Wednesday night...
We made our way to the farm, mentally preparing for what was about to happen. We weren't only saying goodbye to our parents but people we've known our entire lives. Tonight we have to stand in unity, all together. We have to comfort all who have no one left, if I didn't have my siblings I'd be lost.
We got out of the car and already people were handing out candles. I grabbed one for me and each of my siblings and lit them. As the sun set we waited for complete darkness.
"I think it's time" David said. I agreed and gathered some people to set the fire. Before we started I stood on a hill preparing to say a speech before it started. I didn't think I'd be doing this, but when I saw the grieve wiped over their faces I knew that everyone had to hear something before the final goodbye.
"Nothing I say here today will change the emptiness we're all feeling inside. But my mom taught me a quote when I was only a little girl. 'If ever there is a tomorrow when we're not together. There is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But this most important thing is even if we are apart I'll always be with you'. Tonight we stand together to say goodbye to not only our loved ones, but dear friends, the people we've known our entire lives. We are the new future and it's now our responsibility to care for others just like our loved ones did for us. In unity there is strength and together we'll work all together in order to be released from our now chaotic town" I said as I stepped down.
I held my siblings hands and gestured for them to hold others, and before we knew it everyone stood hand in hand. As the match was dropped the bodies lit faster than I could've ever imagined. We stood in silence as we all said our goodbyes. As we looked to the sky helicopters flew over our heads, as I took a longer look I realised it was news stations. Which meant one thing, the outside world knew that something was happening within the walls of our small town.
As others began to leave my siblings and I waited until the fire went out.
"What do we do now?" Jenny asked.
"I think it's time we finally went home" I replied. They all agreed. I walked over to David to figure out his plans.
"Hey, are you guys heading home now?" I questioned.
"I don't want to be alone in the house with Jacob so I guess we'll go to the high school or something" David said.
"Hell no. You'll stay with us, that is if you want" I replied.
"You don't mind?"
"No of course not, the kids like having you and Jacob around and it would comfort me knowing that someone else was in the house that I could trust"
"Well in that case I guess we'll be living in your house till all of this is over"
We all got drove back to the house and I set up all the bedrooms in the house. We agreed that we'd all share two bedrooms just so no one felt alone or scared. Together we pushed all the kids beds into Jenny's room. That's where Jenny, Jacob, Liam, Spencer and Selena would sleep, since there was no room for my bed, David and I would sleep in my room. After a long day all the kids were finally asleep so I made my way into my room, I lit a candle and sat at my desk looking over all the papers again. None of it was making any sense. But then it hit me, the shoe box my father had given to me. I carefully opened it to find more paperwork, pictures and two needles that were full of some sort of liquid. I continued looking through it all till I found another letter addressed to me.
Elizabeth. You must keep everything inside this box hidden. If the government have indeed released the disease in Liberty Hills then soon a man will come looking for all of this. Whatever you do you must not trust him. You have four years to figure out the solution that I never could. The disease will not affect you until you turn 21. I don't have much time left now but my partner and I created an exit out of Liberty Hills when we first heard this was going to happen. Follow the map and it'll lead you and your siblings to safety. But only use this exit if you are in extreme danger Elizabeth. You must be warned that if you leave and come in contact with anyone residing outside of Liberty Hills you'll automatically infect them. Be careful Elizabeth. I'm sorry for this, I will love you and your siblings always and forever.
"What's that?"David asked.
I jumped and quickly shoved everything back into the box. "Just something that belonged to my father" I quickly replied. He nodded and climbed into bed to go to sleep.
I sat examining the letter for hours, who is it that I shouldn't trust. Surely father couldn't have been talking about David. He seems as clueless as everyone else. The thoughts in my head were going wild. How in the hell am I going to figure all this out in four years.
I climbed into my bed and struggled to sleep with my thoughts running so wild.
*creek*
Both David and I quickly jump up to see where the noise was coming from. In front of us stood Liam. He held a photo of our parents to his chest and cried. I lifted him into my bed and hugged him as he sobbed into my chest. David sat beside Liam rubbing his back until eventually we were all asleep.
