As we arrived at the gate David and I stepped out of the car and locked the doors so my siblings couldn't get out. We now knew the guards wouldn't hesitate and I don't want anyone else getting hurt.
"Get back in your car and drive away from here" The guard yelled. As I stared at him for a few seconds I quickly realised that he was the same guard we met last time we were at the gate.
"Don't you remember us" I asked the man.
"Of course I remember you, no one else has been so stupid to come to this section of the gate. Now please I need you to leave. You're contaminating more air the closer you get" He replied.
"I'm Elizabeth and this is David" I said. "Now sitting inside of that car is my siblings and David's brother. We didn't come here to try and escape I just need some information and as soon as I get it we'll leave I promise"
"Information? Just let the government do their job" He replied.
"Listen here jackass everyone in that damn town is relying on Elizabeth, she has one question you could at least have the decency to hear her out" David yelled clearly getting more aggravated by the second.
"I know as much as you kids do, I'm sorry but I can't help you" He replied.
He's lying I can just tell. My mother taught me a lot of her best lawyer tricks and my favourite was the ability to tell when someone under pressure was lying. I just need to squeeze something out of him.
"We just need to know whether the government are planning on sending more resources into town or not" I said.
The guard ran into the little office space and switched something off. As I looked up I noticed the camera pointing towards us was now off.
"I'm telling you this because I have kids myself and I'd hope that should they be in your position someone would help them. After you burned the bodies the government declared Liberty Hills a no fly zone, they don't want the media somehow finding out the truth. We've been told that these gates will never open so I'm afraid that no resources will be getting sent in. Now please go, I'm not even supposed to know this information" He said.
"Thank you" Both David and I yelled as we sprinted into the car and drove away as fast as possible.
We drove for around five minutes to be sure we were far enough away from the gate and I told David to pull over. We both got out the car because we didn't want our siblings to hear what we were about to talk about.
"Bullshit!" I yelled as I threw a rock at a tree.
"I know you're frustrated but we need to figure out a plan like now" David said.
"Okay" I replied as I took a deep breath. "The town holds about a month of resources, so we can either start giving people the basics and that will hold us for an extra month"
"Or?" David questioned.
"Or we get all the money from the bank, cash mashies, stores and anywhere else we can think of and pay the guard to bring us food"
"That's an option but we could also get people to work out on the farm, they'll continue growing crops and care for the animals until we eventually kill them"
"Use all three plans and we should be okay for around six months"
"You think six months is long enough for you to figure this out Elizabeth"
"I guess we'll find out"
"We'll start right away then. We can go home get the papers and bring them to the research lab"
"Sounds good. I guess now is our turn to save the world like you know Batman or Wonder Woman" I joked.
"Okay that wasn't exactly motivational just cringe" David replied laughing.
"Shut up asshole it was supposed to lighten the mood" I added still giggling.
"Since it did lighten the mood I'll let you off with it"
Inside the car...
They were all crowded around the window watching the two of us, although we didn't even really notice nor care.
"Told you, two weeks it is" Jacob said.
"You clearly don't know Elizabeth, she does not move that fast" Jenny replied.
"If we're betting I give it five weeks" Liam added.
"We go four" Spencer and Selena said at the same time.
"What happened to no gambling" Jenny joked.
"That was before I figured we'd be stuck here forever. Since I have no tv I need some entertainment" Selena replied and we all laughed. At that very moment Elizabeth and David got back in the car.
"What's so funny guys?" David questioned.
"Nothing" They replied giggling.
David and I just looked at each other. Even if they're laughing at us I'm just glad their laughing. I know our parents only just died but I don't want them to be sad forever, it just wouldn't be fair.
"How about we head home for the night then we can head to the research lab tomorrow" David suggested.
"Sounds good" I replied.
"Please don't tell me we're going back to that place again it's gross" Jenny said.
"And scary" Jacob added.
"Unfortunately you'll just need to get used to it because I'm not leaving you all at home" I replied.
And with that we drove home and headed to sleep with the stress of what tomorrow would hold on our shoulders. My four years just got turned into six months and it's starting to feel even more impossible.
