I just spent three hours on You Tube to find the best versions of the Christmas songs I like. Most of them are sung by the original artists from the 60's. I like the versions I heard growing up, and none of the newer ones can replace the songs from my childhood. I chose most of these songs because I can sing along with them. I know almost every word by heart or at least the first verses of the hymns. Of course, I couldn't pick only five songs. So I divided them into categories: Secular and Christian. I will list them backwards, like the top ten countdown.
Secular
5) Holly Jolly Christmas - Burl Ives
4) Let It Snow - Andy Williams
3) Winter Wonderland - Dean Martin
2) Sleigh Ride - Johnny Mathis
1) The Christmas Song - Johnny Mathis
The Christian ones I heard in church and the whole congregation sang them from the hymnal, so that is how I remember them. But I did find some versions I liked on You Tube. I love the song "Mary, Did You Know?" The version by the Gaither Vocal Band (or Anthem Lights) is really good, but I don't know all the words so I didn't include it in the list.
Christian
5) O Little Town of Bethlehem - Nat King Cole
4) Go Tell It On The Mountain - Anthem Lights
3)&2) We Three Kings/ God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen - Anthem Lights
1) Do You Hear What I Hear - Bing Crosby
To be honest, I don't enjoy Christmas music until like two weeks before Christmas. I used to work at the mall and hear it all day for weeks after Thanksgiving. That was torture.
We don't even have our Christmas tree up yet. 2018 was the worst year ever and getting in the Christmas spirit is hard. I totally can relate to Scrooge and the Grinch.
Has anyone gone to see the new Grinch movie yet?
What are your favorite Christmas songs?
