A: Analyze This

I have a secret suspicion that someone on Wattpad hates me! Why do I think this? Because every Tuesday Wattpad's server crashes!!! My lovely friends can't even log in to Wattpad to read my incredible story. I believe someone on Wattpad is jealous of my talent and doesn't want me to win the Wattys. So they are doing everything in their power to prevent me from getting reads and votes.

. . . If only this were true.

The fact is: I just have bad luck. The Love Family saying is: If we didn't have bad luck, we wouldn't have any luck at all. Another saying is: No good deed goes unpunished. While I do my best to be friendly, supportive, and encouraging to others, I am losing lots of readers on my story. I am hoping it's the busy summer insanity and not because my story is lacking, but who knows the real reason? (Seriously, if you know the real reason, let me know in the comments.)

I am one of those obsessed writers who are constantly checking for comments and votes on their stories. I go to the Works section each week to see if I have more votes on my chapters than I did last week. (In case you are worried about me, I am improving. I used to check this every day!)

However, my story is more important than its statists. What matters to me are comments, not votes! (Please, o please, continue to vote on my story!!!) Because comments tell me what readers like or dislike about my story, and that's what I need to know to make my story better.

My friend Princessofthepond told me to look at the analytics page of my story. I asked her, "What and where is the analytics page?" She told me it was the interesting symbols beside my story in Works. I always wondered what they were. But the last time I got curious and clicked on a symbol button, my entire chapter was deleted. As you can imagine, that was a very traumatic time for me. I had to beg Wattpad to pretty please put my story back and all its reads, votes, and comments. They did, thank goodness! But it was really scary for me until my chapter was restored. *trembling with fear*

What was I talking about again? Oh, now I remember: the interesting symbols in Works. So click on Works, and look for the symbols on the right beside each story. There are three of them: One is three rectangles of different heights, One is a < symbol with dots at the ends, and One is just three dots. Warning!!! Do Not, I repeat, do Not click on the three dots, which look like this . . . It will delete your entire story!!!

If you click on the three rectangles symbol, the screen will have the words Overview, Engagement, and Demographics.

Overview is Unique Readers, Votes, and Comments by date. Overview is my absolute favorite statistic. I love seeing that my story is getting new readers. And who doesn't love votes and comments? I won't bore you with my numbers, but this page is so exciting!!!

The next part is Engagement. It's completed reads, votes, and comments by chapter. This part is very useful, because I can see which chapters readers liked the best! So that means, when I do my edits, I need to improve the low votes chapters to make them more interesting.

You will have more reads in the beginning chapters, because people read them to find out what your book is about, and if they don't like your story, they stop reading. *sigh* Most people stopped reading Forever Remember after Chapter 3. Maybe that's because they think Jasmine dies. Spoiler Alert!!! She doesn't!

The third part is Demographics. Demographics are awesome and tell me all about my readers by Age, Gender, and Country. 56% of my readers are 13-18 and 74% are girls, which isn't surprising at all, because my story is a teen fiction romance. My readers are from all over the world! 40% from the USA, 11% from the UK, 6% from Canada, 4% from Australia, 5% from India, 4% from Russia, and 5% from Peru, and many more other countries with less than 3%. That's why Wattpad is so amazing because people from across the globe read stories on Wattpad!

The < symbol with dots on it allows you to share your story on social media. I have not clicked on it. Yet. It is too close to the . . . symbol. Knowing my luck I would try to share my story, but my hand would slip and I would end up deleting it.

So check out the analytics of your story! And let me know in the comments what you find. If you have a topic you would like me to blog about, just let me know in the comments. Click the star symbol if you liked this post. If you didn't, well, you know what to do! (No, not that! Clean your dirty mind!) Just comment!
