"Who is this?" I ask.
"It's Nick," the voice says.
I open the door.
"Nick?!" I say.
"Hey Destiny!" he says.
"They took the gate down already?" I ask.
"Yeah and I couldn't sleep so I thought maybe I should come visit you," he says.
It was so sweet of him and he truly seemed like a kind person but again, I couldn't help but wish that it was Shawn. I was counting down the moments until I could talk to him again.
"It's nice you came! Come inside," I say.
"Okay thanks," he says.
I lead him into the kitchen where Isla was. She sees him and raises an eyebrow.
"Isla this is Nick, Nick this is Isla, my sister," I say.
"Nice to meet you," he says.
"Same to you," she says.
"Nick you can sit down in the living room or something while I make you a hot chocolate, if you want one," I say.
"That would be awesome thanks," he says.
He leaves to go to the living room while I take out the stuff to make hot chocolate. I look over at Isla and see her looking at me shocked.
"What?" I ask.
"I thought you said his name was Shawn?" she says.
"Oh no this is Nick. He's just a friend," I say.
"How long have you been talking to these people and why have we never noticed?!" she asks.
I laugh and say, "No clue."
I make a hot chocolate then take it and sit with Nick in the living room, bringing my hot chocolate with me.
"So how's everything?" I ask.
"Actually, there's something I need to tell you," he says.
"Is everything okay?" I ask.
"No..." he says.
"Nick what is it?" I ask.
"Shawn.....he..." he starts to say but he cuts himself off.
"What about Shawn?!" I ask getting worried.
"He's....dead," he says.
I drop my mug and it breaks into a million pieces all over the ground and the leftover hot chocolate spilling on the ground.
Isla runs into the living room.
"Destiny what hap-" she stops what she was going to say midsentence when she sees the mess on the ground.
"Destiny what wrong?!" Isla asks.
"Please. Please tell me you're joking," I whisper.
"I'm sorry," Nick says.
"Can someone tell me what's going on?!" Isla says.
"Shawn is dead," Nick repeats.
This time, there was no mug that could fall and shatter into a million pieces. There was only one thing left. It was as if the first time he said it I heard it but not too properly. It may have caused me to break the mug but that was no where near the real damage and the worst kind of shattering. More than a million pieces everywhere. Emotions that you can't explain. A million different thoughts going into your brain. Feeling as if you have no control over you body anymore, feeling weak. The worst thing that could fall and break and shatter into a million pieces? It's the heart.
And that's what happened, right now, to mine.
