BELLA'S POV

"I'm so glad you're okay", Wade said as he rushed towards me, throwing his arms around me.

"I'm fine, what's wrong?", I asked as he released me.

"I just got scared when they told me you left the hospital already"

Wade arrived at the house a while after I did. It was a big house located in a quiet part of the town. Megan had introduced me to a couple of ex Raiders and even shown me Wade's room where I would be staying.

"Why didn't you wait for me?", He turned to ask Megan.

"You were taking too long and she just got discharged. She needs rest", Megan said, a disappointed look in her eyes.

"Where were you?", I asked Wade.

"Oh yeah, I was going to get you a welcoming gift", he said, running his fingers through his hair, "but then I ran into someone"

He moved to stand next to me. A woman stood not too far from her. She had curly black hair and cheekbones that looked too real to not be fake. She wore a short fitted black gown and a large coat with boots. Her lips curved into a smile as she stared at me.

"Hi", she said.

"Bella, this is Veronica Sanchez, an ex raider", Wade said.

Wade mentioned to me sometime that the Raiders hardly ever had women in their group. I felt it was sexist. Wade only felt it was a fact that men could handle certain situations that women couldn't. On rare occasions, there were female Raiders like Megan who could handle just as much roughness as the men could. Veronica didn't look anything like someone who could handle roughness but hey, don't judge a book by it's cover right?

"Wade has told me so much about you", she said and I felt Wade's body tense next to me.

"Oh, well that's cool. Nice to meet you", I said, shrugging off the uncomfortable feeling I was having.

The atmosphere was slightly awkward.

"It's nice to see you again Megan", Veronica said, turning to stare at Megan.

"Why are you here?", Megan asked flatly.

"I need Wade's help with some trouble back home"

"He isn't involved in all of that anymore", Megan said frowning, "didn't you tell her?", She added, now staring at Wade.

"I did", Wade said, wrapping his hand around my waist and pulling me closer to him.

"I'm tired", I said softly.

"You should rest Princess, c'mon", he said, holding my hand and pulling me away, thankfully.

"Where am I going to stay?", I heard Veronica ask loudly as we walked away.

He groaned, "I don't care Ronnie, Megan will help you"

Ronnie?

---

"Did Veronica work for your dad?", I asked when we stepped into the room.

Wade took off his hoodie revealing a red shirt underneath. "Yes and then a while for me"

"She looks young"

"She was recruited when she was 19, around the time I moved to California"

"Wow"

I wondered what it would have been like for a young girl her age to be recruited into a gang of assassins and drug dealers.

"She was an orphan. My father was a bastard who thought she was strong and had potential so he took her in and turned her into a killer"

He was frowning as he spoke. Whenever Wade talked about his father, I could tell he still held a lot of hatred in for the man. It was the same when he thought about all the things he had done in the past. He hated himself for it.

"Okay", I said as I sat down on the bed. He opened the dresser and took out a pair of sweatpants.

"You should rest Bella", he said without turning to look at me.

"Okay"

I got comfortable on the bed and lay down, turning so I was facing the window.

"Is something wrong?", I heard him ask.

"No"

"You sound like something's wrong"

"Nothing's wrong"

"Bella..."

I sat up and faced him. He was wearing the sweatpants now. He stared at me and smiled.

"Is this about me not picking you up from the hospital?", he asked.

"No, I understand that"

"So what?"

I sighed and shook my head.

"Are you going to get involved with the whole gang shit again?", I asked.

"What?, No"

"Then why is Veronica here?"

"She said she didn't have anywhere else to stay and I felt responsible for her", he climbed the bed and moved so he could sit close to me. "She's having gang trouble but I'm not getting involved Bella, I swear"

"Why did she leave the Raiders?", I asked.

He clenched his jaw, "she had her reasons. Everyone has theirs. Some people left because they thought I wasn't capable, some left because we couldn't agree on things"

"Why did Veronica leave?"

"I don't know Bella"

His tone was off like he was having a hard time saying the words to me.

"Go to sleep", he said, planting a kiss on my forehead.

I nodded and lay down, facing the window again. I closed my eyes as I felt Wade's arms around me, pulling me close to him. His breath fanned at the back of my next as he planted a kiss there.

"I'm so happy you're here", he said, "so fucking happy"
