BELLA
When Aaron walked, it was always with a confident stride and a cocky smirk on his face. Although he was in his forties, years of self care made sure he could still pass off as a thirty five year old man. When he smiled, it was genuine and everybody at Rova loved, admired and respected him. He was young at heart with a perfect soul, sometimes he was childish and sometimes he was serious. He was patient, kind and embracive.
"Do you know why I decided to take over my father's business Bella?", Arthur asked. We were closing early for the day and we only had a couple of minutes left. He liked to have me sitting in his office, listening to him talk while I worked. He said it was fascinating how I was so attentive to what he said and still managed to not make mistakes in what I was doing.
"Last week, you said your wife got pregnant at a young age and you needed the job", I looked up and said.
He narrowed his eyes at me, "no", he shook his head, "that was my second reason"
I chuckled and looked back at the planner.
"My first reason was because I was obsessed with naked women"
I opened my eyes wide at him. He laughed, a soft but hysterical laugh.
"You should see the look on your face right now, it's priceless", he continued to laugh.
I didn't reply. I always kept my replies at a minimum so I could concentrate on fixing and memorizing Aaron's schedule for the next day, and also because however comfortable he expected me to be with him, I didn't want to say anything out of place.
But I could tell it was hard to offend Aaron, he saw things differently, a trait Micah had picked up from him.
"My mother, may her perfect soul rest in peace", he stared the ceiling, "was a beautiful confident woman. Most of my father's collections were inspired by her. She lived in Sudan for some time and I don't know if you've been to Sudan or read about their dressing laws but they have some strict rules when it comes to fashion"
"Did she break the law?"
"No, my mother was a good person but when she came to the US, her perspectives on fashion changed a lot"
I smiled, "she was exposed"
He nodded, "she realized quickly that for a long time, what she wore determined what identity society would give her and she wanted to change that-
-She told me that when she met my father, she loved his dreams and his opinions first before she loved him. He wasn't a fashion designer, he was an artist and the human body was his canvass. Now this lesson is the biggest reason why I'm into fashion today", he leaned in, staring into my eyes.
"The canvass is already art, a piece of paper is already a book and a naked body is no different, you just have to find the right artist, writer and fashion designer to bring it all out in the way it should be", he leaned back into his seat.
I exhaled, "that's beautiful"
"I know", he smiled as I went back to the schedule.
The only sound in the room for minutes after was Aaron tapping a pen on his desk.
"Do I have any important meetings tomorrow?", he asked.
For Aaron, important meetings meant meetings with people who were making him at least half a million dollars. On a list of things he loved, family came first, his designs came second and making money from his designs came third.
"You're supposed to meet a client at noon tomorrow"
He scrunched his face, dropping the pen. "Okay"
