Chapter 15

BELLA'S POV

"We need to talk"

He groaned. Wade and I had been lying down with my head on my chest in silence for a while. I was pretty comfortable with his hands going through my hair but I needed to tell him about how I'd be searching for a job already.

His body tensed.

"You're right, we do", he said and I sat up immediately, staring at him wide eyed.

He chuckled, "what's up?"

"You go first"

"No, you go first"

"I want you to go first"

"But you said it first"

"Wade!"

"Bella!", He whined mockingly and I rolled my eyes.

"Is something wrong?", I asked.

"I hope not", he said softly, carefully studying my face, "what's wrong?"

"I wanna talk about what's going to happen now"

"What is going to happen now?"

I sighed, looking down as my hands played with the sheets. I wasn't sure how he was going to react.

"Bella?"

"I wanna go back to work?"

I looked up at Wade. He had a small frown on his face.

"Oh", he said softly, "okay"

"Okay?", I asked.

What did he mean by just 'okay?'

"Yes Bella", he said, "okay"

Okay, he was definitely pissed.

"Wade, please talk to me"

"We're not going to New York anymore, are we?", He clenched his jaw.

"I didn't think so. I thought that after the accident, things would change and..."

"Nothing will ever change with you Princess"

"You probably don't want me to go back to work. I just need a distraction and..."

"I get it"

Why was he interrupting me?

"I'm not mad Bella", he said, "I just didn't expect it but I get it. You can go back to work, I won't stop you"

"You were still going to move to New York"

"Yeah", he licked his lips, "I didn't think you'd still wanna stay in the town where we lost out first child"

I pursed my lips and nodded. He was right.

"Okay", I said, "so what do you wanna talk about?"

"Ronnie"

My heart literally skipped a beat or more when I heard her name. What could have happened between them?

"What the fuck?", I heard him say, "why do you look like that?"

"Nothing, I just..."

"Jesus Christ Bella", he said, "I just wanted to tell you about why she's here"

I stared at him and saw a small smile playing on his lips.

"You're cute when you're jealous", he said.

Idiot.

"What happened to Veronica", I asked, pursing my lips.

"She's hiding here"

"From?"

He sighed, concern etched on his face. "Apparently there's a new gang in California killing off ex Raiders who don't want to join them"

"Oh"

I couldn't imagine just how Wade must have been feeling about this. He ended the gang for me and now they were getting killed.

This whole gang stuff never did settle well in my head.

"I know I said I would never go back Princess but..."

"I get it"

"What the fuck?", He creased his eyebrows together, "are you fucking using my words against me?"

I laughed and he reached out to caress my cheek. I layed my head in his hands lovingly.

"You're going back", I said softly.

"Only to find out what's really going on"

"I'm scared"

"I know"

"It's dangerous"

"Nothing's going to happen to you Princess", he held my hand and clenched his jaw, "I'll have your mom and Stacy watched if that's what it takes. I'm not taking any fucking risks with you anymore"

I sighed. He was reminiscing about Noah and my mom's kidnap.

"I'm scared for you"

"I'll be fine though"

"You never know", I shrugged.

"Come here", he pulled me close, kissing me lightly on the lips, "I love you"

"I love you too"

"If I die. You'll still never be alone. My ghost will probably kill your next boyfriend and the one after that and the one after that..."

"Wade!"

He laughed. He was so cute when he laughed.

"Don't even joke about that", I said, pouting.

He leaned in and took my bottom lip in between his teeth before kissing me deeply again.

"I'll be fine", he said, "I promise Princess"

I nodded.

This conversation went better than I expected.
