BELLA

The loud had been sudden. Cool air whispered through the window as silence hung in the air. Veronica looked over her shoulder and then back to stare at me.

"What was that?", I asked.

"Shut up", she pointed the gun in her hand at me and took slow steps backwards.

It sounded like a gunshot and it sent a cold chill down my spine. I wondered if someone had been killed. I could only hope it wasn't one of the people in the basement or Axel.

"Don't make a sound", Veronica said and then she dashed out of the room, shutting the door behind her.

I glanced around the bedroom. She had woken me up early and brought me out of the basement. On the way to the room, I tried my best to look for a possible escape route. I needed to warn Wade about the trap Luke Grace had set up for him and I couldn't help but feel like I was running out of time.

The room was wide and its walls were hung with fine, abstract art. In the center, a large purple silky carpet lay matching the couch I sat on which was covered in silky material. A king-sized bed stood not to far away from the couch, it's white sheets neatly spread around it. Besides that, there wasn't much in the room, although I knew the little door to my right led into a small closet and the door to my left was the bathroom.

I bit my bottom lip and continued to mess with the rope tied around my wrists. It may as well have been my lucky day because Veronica didn't make it as tight as she was supposed to. My heart beat quickened as it loosened and soon, I was able to slip one hand out. I smirked to myself.

I knew where the front door was. I had caught a glimpse of the window next to it on my way to the room and could see the gate through it. The only problem now was getting past all the guards. Tamal had said they weren't much. Most of them were getting ready for the fight with Wade so I didn't think it would be that hard.

I stood and crept slowly towards the door, first listening closely for footsteps or a sign that someone was coming. When I didn't hear anything, I opened it and poked my head out into the small corridor. It was eerily quiet.

I looked to my left. All I had to do was walk down the corridor and then turn to the left. I took a deep breath and walked out, leaving the door open. I had to be quick and get as far as I could before Veronica noticed I was gone.

I walked down the hall as fast as I could, holding up my gown so I wouldn't trip on it. My ankles ached but it didn't matter. With the adrenaline coursing through my veins, I couldn't even focus on it.

The sound of incoming footsteps alerted me and I turned and ran into one of the rooms, closing the door behind me. I was thankful it was empty and I listened closely. The footsteps jogged past the room. There were at least three men and they were most likely armed. I began to doubt my escape plan. If I was going to make it out alive, I needed to arm myself with something.

I looked around the room. It was similar to the one I was in before except there were no couches, just a bed and a large coffee table standing at the end. Opposite the door, on the other end of the room was a large window. I let out a breath I didn't know I had been holding in. Escaping through it without being seen was my best bet. I walked over to a drawer and opened it, rummaging through it for any thing that could help. There were only clothes- white shirts and matching white sweatpants. They were men clothes. In a way, they made me think about Wade.

I glanced down at the dress I had been wearing since the night of the party. It would be hard to run in it so i grabbed one of the shirts and sweatpants before hurried to the door in a corner of the room. Once I was in the small empty closet, I started to pull the dress off quickly.
