My body feels impossibly heavy. Everything around me is layered in pitch darkness. I have no idea what time it is. But it feels like I've been here forever. Yet I savor every last minute of it. Knowing that standing around doing nothing is better than what's out there.

The demons. The carnage and bloodshed. The screams of people close to me dying. That world is not made for me. I don't belong there. I was suppose to be just some kid in high school. Goofing around with my friends. Wasting my days having careless fun and doing whatever seemed cool. Not be some demon Slayer.

Besides, it's not like I'm some war hero. I don't have any experience. I'm lazy. I hardly think of others, unlike Frankie or Sophie. I don't have that mental toughness like Tammy or my father does. Hell, I never saved anybody, let alone having what it takes to fight for mankind itself!

Not even for mom. She died right in front of me. And I...did nothing to stop it.

I start to hear voices. Soft, gentle ones at first. They all blend into a perfect melody in my ears. Much more smoothing then the screams of those dying on the battlefield.

Alone in the darkness. I start to see spirits walking around. Glowing in a soft, pale blue light. That makes them almost look transparent. I welcome their presence. By giving them a warm smile. None of them return the favor.

Hours go by. Before I can actually see a bright light. I feel myself stand up. Feeling drawn by the light, I soon find myself floating towards it. Not even thinking about anything else. I wanted to be at peace more than my next breath.

Upon drawing closer to the light. I hear a familiar voice. One filled with hatred and disgust.

"Freddie. Oh, Freddie. Wake up for your big sis."

Sammie comes into view. She materializes right before my eyes. Standing in front of the light. Blocking my path towards the greater unknown. Beams of light curve around her. Shooting out from every angle. Making her look like a divine force.

That all changes once the light around her turns a bloody red. The air becomes icy-cold to the bone. Enough to make me shudder all over.

"How pathetic. You can't do anything right." Sammie speaks harshly. Still talking down on me in that snobby voice of hers. "What good will it do if you abandon this world? If you do so, then you're no better than me."

"Don't compare me to you!" I point an angry finger. Tears stream down my eyes. "You're the one who betrayed me! Not only that, but you betrayed our father and mother too! What would she say if she saw you right now?! What gives you the right to tell me am the same as you huh?!"

"You fail to see the bigger picture. You give up too easily and always assume the worst. That has always been your biggest fault." Sammie floats closer. I hover a few feet back. "Even now, you fail to see what you are doing. You actually plan on leaving everyone else behind. Just like I did. If you die, you will never see any of us again. Including me. Tell me, are you really prepared to make such a sacrifice?"

"So what?!" I growl. "I don't wanna deal with this anymore. At least if I die, I would be with mom!" My eyes lower. "Where ever she is."

"How did I ever wind up with an idoit for a brother like you?" Sammie shakes her head. Then fades into nothingness. And the light glows brighter. Until everything around me becomes light...

I spring up halfway in a bed not my own. Drenched in sweat. Breathing erratically. Shaking uncontrollably. When I calm myself down a little. By inhaling and exhaling slowly. Getting a hold of myself. While gripping tightly onto to my heaving chest. Which is oddly enough, scorching hot to the touch, and the gaping hole from before has completely disappeared.
