"August! You almost hit that truck!" I shout from the passengers seat, holding onto the door for dear life. She just laughs.
"You're over reacting."
"I am not, you're driving like a maniac."
"You always think I drive like a maniac."
I roll my eyes at her and cross my arms.
"Come on, it's not like the overlook is gonna disappear if we don't get there in two minutes. There's no rush to be there."
"The rush to see it my child," she smirks and pats my head.
We had finally convinced our mom to let us go to the scenic overlook that everyone from school seemed to be going to these days. She was still iffy on letting us go since it's two hours away.
"Besides, we're like five minutes away."
We pull into the overlook parking lot and she puts the car into park and takes the keys out. We both hop out quickly to rush to see the view.
It's beautiful. The way the stacked rocks look like they're sliding off each other, and the tall mountains reaching the clouds. I sigh and take in the view.
"Why is everyone so horny for this place?" August breaks me out of my trance and I look over at her.
"What do you mean? It's gorgeous."
"What's so gorgeous about some rocks?"
"I mean, the colors, the way they're stacked. You know?"
"I don't."
Something up.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm great," she smiles and pats me on the shoulder.
"August, come on. I know you. You were so excited to come here when mom finally said yes. So what's wrong?"
She sighs and leans on the railing. "I don't know. It's still so gorgeous it just feels so... pointless. Why's everyone's dick getting so hard for something that doesn't do anything for you, you know?"
"Because it's nature, and it's beautiful. It might not do something for you physically. But emotionally, it gives you memories." I smirk a little and look back out into the valley. I can practically feel her eye roll.
"Riley how are you so poetic?"
I glance over at her.
"I'm not."
"You're so much better at everything than me."
"I'm flattered."
"No really. You're smarter, prettier, skinnier. Basically everything I'm not."
I look over at her and quirk a brow.
"Okay, something is going on."
She sighs and slumps her shoulders slightly, looking out into the mountains. We stay like that in silence for a little.
"I don't know I just feel..." She trails off. I stay quiet and let her gather her thoughts. She nibbles on her bottom lip, pondering. "Useless." Her voice is small and withdrawn.
"August," I say immediately. "You are not useless. Who doesn't put up with the perverted boys at our school?" I cross my arms. A slight smile tugs at her lips.
