Despite sharing a room with Allura, Sarah rarely saw her. As time passed Allura spent more and more time looking into the robeast - whatever that was, she still hadn't seen it yet - and was becoming more and more stressed with each passing day. It was hard to be understanding when she didn't know what everyone was talking about.
That was okay, though. Sarah had other friends and she was busy trying to track down her belongings from before her space adventure. There had to be a storage area for confiscated items or things never took home, wouldn't there? Maybe not everything was still around but she had a big collection of games she'd brought from home and she wanted to play something to help pass the time. Something small and simple would get her through those boring meetings she was made to sit through, too.
She just needed someone to help her. Unfortunately her options were very much limited.
Shiro wasn't an option: she didn't remember meeting him officially and he was busy being a leader. Put simply, she didn't feel comfortable with him, even just to ask him where a storage area could be.
Pidge was grounded. While she hadn't gone out to space of her own will, according to everyone's accounts, her mom was paranoid and was scared to let her out of her sight.
Hunk was busy with his family and Shay, who Sarah soon adored. She is exactly perfect for Hunk and she fit in just right with his family despite not being human. Sarah didn't want to interrupt in any of his family moments. And besides, when he wasn't with his family he was cooking.
Lance had a similar situation. His family was bigger, too, and spending time with all of them took more time. When he wasn't hanging out with his family he was with the blue lion or trying to figure out how to ask Allura out with Hunk.
That just left Keith. Sarah always felt guilty for not remembering anything that happened between them. Every time she looked at him her heart had little spasms and it was really painful. She wanted to spend time with him, and he'd agreed to hang out with her. They both hoped that doing so would help bring sometime back. Unfortunately, nobody knew where Keith spent most of his time. He disappeared every day and nobody saw him until he came for meals. She almost felt scared to go out looking for him. As an introvert his alone time was important, but he had a lot of it. Taking a few hours to help her out wouldn't be detrimental to his health, would it? All Sarah had to do was wait for lunch time to come.
"Perhaps you can try running," Allura suggested as she got ready for the day. They'd just had breakfast and Sarah was looking for something to do to pass the time. "You love to exercise. Your goal on the castle was to run through every hall from top to bottom without stopping for a break. Go see how far you can go in your Earth measurements." She finished tying up her hair and gave herself a satisfied smile in the mirror.
Sure. Sarah rolled her eyes, brought her knees up to her chest and hugged them. She was being put out of the way so she didn't bother anyone. Surely there was something she could do to help someone.
Maybe being out of the way was how she could help.
With that thought in mind she changed into a pair of running shorts and a white shirt, slipped some shoes on, put her brown hair up into a ponytail, and left without another word to Allura. She didn't even wait to get to the exercise room to start running. At first she wanted to go as fast as she could, burn her stress and frustration away but she forced herself to calm down and stay steady. "Even breaths and even steps lead to even thoughts," is what her mother used to tell her when she was in school and in track.
No amount of time running on the indoor track and stretching could take away her hurt feelings from how useless Sarah was around the Garrison. She had to have some sort of purpose in space. There was no way she would have just sat around waiting for everyone to come back.
