Life never slows down, and that was the case especially for Keith and Sarah Kogane. On the night they got married, they promised to always stay by the other's side and support each other no matter what, just as they always had. Soon after, they decided to leave Earth and spend the rest of their lives helping the universe and traveling. For the majority of their time together they experienced new things together and they wanted to continue doing what they loved as long as they could.
They arranged for transportation, and months later, a ship of Coran's design was completed and the two set off. It was roomy and took on the name "Camper" because, as Sarah put it, "It's basically like one of the campers you put on the back of your truck, and you go camping with it. A space camper." It was made to be able to attach to the Black Lion, but could detach if needed. In the Camper, they ate meals staring out at the stars, comforted each other, bickered, made up, and were altogether happy.
After a few months, Krolia decided it was time to begin Keith's next task: help the Galra establish a new government that would last and bring peace to the entire empire and the universe. With Krolia and Sarah's encouragement, he agreed.
"It's going to be a lot of work," Keith sighed. He sank into his seat and pressed a few buttons for the ship to be taken over by autopilot. "You sure you're up for it? We just got married, and-"
"We've been married for three months, dearest. I think we're settled. Besides, isn't this the kind of stuff we've always been doing?" Sarah turned her head to smile at him and took his hand, running her thumb over his knuckles. "This will determine the course of the universe for - for - well, I dunno how long, but it's really important."
"If you're sure."
Sarah was. For one long year they worked harder than they had before. There were a lot of stressful nights that Keith stayed awake, unable to sleep. Sarah stayed up with him. A few of the Galra leaders wanted Keith to take over, and for a short while, he did, just to train some people how to run the empire. Keith had no idea what he was doing, but he drew a lot of inspiration from the American history lessons that he barely paid attention to.
Once that year was up, Keith made the announcement that he was giving up leadership and that the Galra should elect a new person to take over. Nobody was very happy about that, and even Sarah wasn't either. They were in a good place and life was stable. She didn't argue much, though, when Keith was offered a position as a Galran diplomat, which he accepted.
Sarah also had news for him, but with the recent changes in their life, she didn't think it was appropriate to tell him just yet.
The Paladins has decided that, on the one-year anniversary of Allura's passing, they would gather together for a few days to reminisce and discuss what was happening. Keith and Sarah left the Galra to attend the gathering. After boarding the Camper, she made her seat lay down, and said, "I'm really glad all the drama is over. I don't know how you dealt with me and all..." she made a weird groaning noise and flailed her hands around. "I don't know, that." When Keith didn't say anything, she sighed and leaned her head back to rest. "Did you ever have doubts?"
"About what?"
"About us. Our plans were to get married. And then when my memories weren't coming back after months, did you ever wonder if maybe we weren't going to work out in the end?" Nothing Keith could say would make Sarah not want to be with him for the rest of her life, but she was still curious.
Keith sighed heavily. He nudged Sarah's leg with his, gently swaying her back and forth. It was time to get something off his chest, and it was now or never. "Do remember when Krolia and I were in the quantum abyss? And how we saw things from the past?" he asked.
