*** Federal Special Unit Facility Elkhart, Indiana ***Dr Keller stands watching the surgeon as he places another implant in the back of Jessica's neck. After he's stitched her up, Keller walks inside and looks down at his unconscious prisoner.
"Did you have any problems?" Keller asks.
"It was difficult getting the old one out," He shakes his head. "It was burned into the tissue. I spent most of the time cleaning up the incision before I could put the new one in."
"Do you know how she was able to use her ability? I thought these devices completely blocked all the Paranormal's powers."
"They do. This is the first one I've ever heard of that's been able to do it, and as far as how... That's your department."
"How long will she be out?"
"The guard gave her a large dose when he stopped her. She's lucky to be breathing at all." Dr. Keller gives him a stern look. "She's been unconscious for five hours now and should be coming out of it in an another hour or two."
"Very well. As soon as it's safe, begin phase two," Dr. Keller turns and walks out into the hall. "Guard!" He shouts and he reacts quickly.
"Sir."
"As soon as the Dr. releases the prisoner take her back to the lab and notify me immediately."
"Yes Sir."
Keller nods and walks down the hall to a security station.
"Is Subject two awake?"
"Yes Sir, If you want to call it that. Have a look." The guard motions toward the monitor and Keller walks around the desk. Aiden's just sitting on the bed, not moving at all, staring at the wall.
"Is he trying to use his ability?"
"I don't think so. We haven't detected any gamma ray elevations inside the room, and his implant is still in place and functioning."
Keller turns toward two agents," Both of you, follow me."
The three men proceed down the hall until they arrive at Aiden's door. Dr. Keller nods and one of the Agents opens the door while the other steps inside ahead of Keller. After the door is closed, Keller waits a moment for a reaction... and sees none.
"Aiden. Can you hear me?" No reaction. Keller steps forward and kneels down on one knee. Reaching up he gently turns his head so they're face to face.
"Aiden?" He asks gently and he doesn't even blink. Keller stands and looks down at him.
"You may have pushed him too far too fast." Keller turns to see Dr. Brown standing slightly behind him.
"It's good to see you again," Keller reaches out his hand... And Brown doesn't take it.
"Dispense with the pleasantries. The board wants an update."
"Well, as you can see we're in the process of conditioning the subjects. Subject two, Aiden, has been broken and I believe is ready for part two of the process. Subject one, Jessica, is a little further behind and I'll need more time with her."
"The board doesn't care about these two. They want to know why you haven't moved in on our primary objective now that we know where she is."
"If we go in before we're ready, it could be a blood bath... Like before."
"The board members as you know are sorry for your loss, but they still expect results. That's why we put you in charge of The Special Unit. You promised us Caitlin's head on a platter, and all we've been given is excuses."
