*** Fort Worth, Texas ***Kelsey and I have found a cheap hotel for the night. She's in the shower, and I'm lying on the bed propped up against the headboard on the phone.
"Thank God you made it. I'm sorry about Aiden. How did Jessica take it?" I ask Sarah.
"She's still out of it. I don't know how she'll react when we tell her. Kyle you wouldn't believe what all I've witnessed," She whispers.
"Oh I can probably imagine. How's Max taking it?"
"Not very well. This is the first time he's actually had to kill someone."
"I'll talk to him when you get here. Speaking of that, how far out are you?"
"We're on I55 just south of Chicago. Logan thinks if we take turns driving, we should meet with you in about 13 hours."
"That doesn't give me much time..."
"Well just be careful. If you have to, travel the back roads. You don't want to get pulled over."
"Don't worry about us. We'll be fine. Have you found out anything on Caitlin's location?"
"No. Nothing yet," Kelsey walks out of the bathroom as I say it. "She's keeping a low profile." I see her fold her arms, and I get the look.
"Good. Keep it that way until we get there. I know you Kyle, and I don't want you running off and doing something stupid. Is Kelsey still with you?"
"I'm here Sarah," she says and sits down on the bed.
"Hey girl. Thanks for keeping him out of trouble."
"I promise I won't let him out of my sight."
"I know you won't. I'll see you two in a few hours. Kyle... I love you."
"I love you too, and call if you get into trouble. See you soon." Hanging up I turn to Kelsey.
"Thanks..."
"Don't thank me. I hate lying to her, and you should too."
"Believe me... I do," I whisper. We remain silent for a moment. "Let's try and get a couple hours sleep. I've got a feeling we'll have a busy day tomorrow."
*** Somewhere just off I55 2:00 a.m. ***
Sarah has taken over the driver's seat to give Logan a break. They've been turning on side roads from time to time just to make sure no one is following and so far... so good. Jessica's still out of it and is lying down with her head in Megan's lap. Hailey and Max are in the 3rd row seat leaning against each other asleep as well. The events of the day have taken their toll.
"Sarah, when you get tired let me know and we'll trade back," Logan offers.
"I'm fine right now, but I will." Logan studies her for a moment and she notices.
"What?"
"I was just thinking about everything that's happened this year. I mean, I never knew there were people in the world like all of you," he shakes his head. "My whole reality changed when I wrecked my car, and they saved me." He turns to see Megan has fallen asleep as well.
"What happened?"
"Well... I swerved to avoid someone in the road. Later I found out that someone was actually an evil spirit."
"More spirits... I thought my life was crazy."
"I know what you mean... but anyway, my car was upside down, and I was trapped. The three of them seemed to show up out of nowhere, just as it caught fire. Without any warning the door was ripped off, and the girls drug me out. They helped me up the hill until I couldn't go any further."
