Christmas (part 1)

Authors note: If this chapter looks any different that is because I am writing it on my laptop

"I'm wrapping my presents now." Eliza declared, it was Christmas eve and she always volunteered to wrap her siblings presents as Logan and Kyle were both dreadful at it andJacob would wrap his own as well as Logan and Kyles gifts to Eliza.

"I'll come give you mine in a minute." Kyle said, looking over his shoulder and nodding to Eliza.

"Mine are in my room." Logan said, as always being the laziest.

"I'll come up and do mine now as well." Jacob said, standing up from the sofa where all three brothers were sat whilst Eliza had been making sure they had already brought all the food for the next day.

"Hey." Kyle said, walking into Eliza's room, his arms full of gifts.

"Hey." Eliza said looking up. "Just leave them on the end of the bed."

"Thanks." Kyle said. "um, is it okay that I asked Hailey to come? Its just that she isn't from around here and she cant get any time off to go home."

"Yeah, that's fine, I already brought her presents from me and both the boys just incase." Eliza said with a smile.

"What would you have done if I hadn't of invited her?" Kyle asked curiously.

"Made you invite her over on boxing day." Eliza shrugged. "I don't know, I didn't really think that far ahead."

"You know, when I first tried to adopt you guys I did the same thing. I didn't want to think about what would happen if they said no, put you into the system." Kyle said. Whilst he was talking Eliza got up and walked to him, wrapping her arms around him once he finished.

"I know this time of year is rough for you, we all have times that we find hard. For Jake and Logan it's their birthdays, for me it's the day they left and for you it's Christmas." She said as they pulled apart. "I know you still feel bad about that first Christmas, but you were only 18, working a part time job, with three kids. No one was expecting anything from you."

"How do you always know exactly what to say?" Kyle asked, wrapping his arms around her again.

"I grew up with the best big brothers?" She said.

"What about Logan?" Kyle asked with a smirk.

"Hes alright I suppose." Eliza said.

"You want any help with the food tomorrow?" Kyle asked.

"Wow, this year has a lot of firsts for you, first time bringing a girl over for Christmas and the first time volunteering to cook, I wonder if they could be related?" Eliza tormented.

"Ha ha." Kyle said sarcastically.

"I think Jake and I have it covered." She said. "You can help by keeping Logan away from the kitchen."

"That I can do." Kyle said with a smile.

"Can you also leave cause I have two presents in here for you that I need to wrap." ELiza said, giving him a gentle shove.

"Its good to see you smiling." Kyle said, ruffling her hair on his way out.

Half an hour later Eliza came down the stairs. "All the presents are wrapped in my room, im just going to run an errand, anyone need anything?" she asked, all three of her brothers said no.

"Hey, thanks for coming." Jay said as Eliza sat opposite him in the booth at a coffee shop they had arranged to meet at. "What did you tell your brothers?"

"That I'm running an errand." Eliza said with a shrug.

"I just wanted to check in with you, see how you're doing." Jay said.

"I'm doing okay, I've got weekly sessions with Dr Charles. Physically I'm pretty much back to normal. There have been a few things I haven't been able to get out my head, that's why I agreed to meet up so fast." Eliza said.

"What's up?" He asked, getting slightly worried.

"Its nothing bad, you just have to promise me to not blame yourself because that's not want I want to get from this." Eliza said.

"El, you're really worrying me." Jay said, reaching across the table and taking her hands in his.

"The reason I got with Josh is because I liked someone, well I still like him, but he works with my brother and he's really close with the girl my brother likes and I didn't want it to get complicated." Eliza said. "Jay, I went out with Josh to try and get over you and ended up falling even more in love with you." She confessed.

"When Brett told me she was worried about you I told her I would call in the team if I found anything suspicious. As soon as I found where you were I left, without calling the team which was a huge gamble, it could've gone badly and ended with both of us dead because I wanted to make sure you were safe. I've been in love with you since I first saw you at med when Kyle had a gun to his head." Jay said before leaning across the table and gently, slowly placing a kiss on her lips, not wanting to bring up any memories of Josh. Eliza didn't pull away, she deepened the kiss. A few seconds later they pulled apart.

"You make me feel so safe, safer than I ever thought I'd feel again after the last month." Eliza said.

"Did you really get with him to try and get over me?" Jay asked.

"Yes, but its not your fault. There's no way anyone could've known what he was capable of." Eliza said, reaching out and squeezing his hand. They sat for a few minutes before the comfortable silence was interrupted by Elizas phone pinging.

"Is everything okay?" Jay asked as Eliza quickly read the message and got to her feet.

"Yeah, it was Logan, Kyles locked himself in his room." Eliza said.

"Is he okay? You need a lift over?" Jay asked.

"Its a rough time of year for him, I thought I'd talked him out of it earlier but obviously not." Eliza said. "He'll be fine by tomorrow, I would invite you over but Kyles invited Hailey over and I'm pretty sure even Jacobs gonna be overprotective of me for a while"

"Oh no, I get it. Plus Wills already invited me over to theirs to save him from his in-laws." Jay said with a smirk.

 "Oof, you must've gotten pretty lucky, there's just the four of us." Eliza said as Jay walked her out to her car.

"Same for you, its just me and Will." Jay said as they reached her car.

"You cant mention anything about Kyle because we were never here." Eliza said, placing a kiss on his lips before unlocking her car.

"Scouts honour, see you soon." Jay said, shutting her car door.
