Raegan and I managed to contain all the rumors floating around about our quick Vegas marriage, but everyday more and more people were convinced that it in fact did happen. Good thing about my family back home was that they already knew to take rumors with a grain of salt. Today I arrived in Australia to give them the news in person. Raegan thought a phone call would be fine, but I knew my mother too well to know in person would be better.

I knocked on the front door of my mother's house and within a minutes of waiting she answered the door. "Ashton, I wasn't expecting you. This is quite the surprise!" Grinning from ear to ear, she pulled me in for a hug. "I've missed you."

She led me into the living room and I took a seat on the couch as she fetched us drinks from the kitchen. When she returned, she handed me a cup and took a seat beside me. "How is everything going?" She asked after sipping from her cup.

"Good, really good actually." I answered her with a smile as I begun to get nervous. "I'm happy. Things with Raegan are amazing."

"That's wonderful to hear. You know everyone seems to think you ran off and got married to her. These rumors just make me laugh anymore." She took another sip and I remained silent. She surveyed me when I didn't respond. "They are just rumors, right?"

I swallowed the lump in my throat that was only growing as I stayed quiet. "That's actually why I came to see you." I sat the cup on the she small end table beside the couch. "Raegan and I eloped, unintentionally."

My mother choked on her drink. "Ashton," her frown lines became prominent as she furrowed her brows. "How do you unintentionally get married?"

"Too much to drink on New Year's."

"New Year's was nearly three weeks ago, why am I now just finding out you got married? Here I've been laughing at all these rumors about it and now I find out it's all true?" She pressed her lips tightly together as she stared at me, clearly dumbfounded I let this happen.

"I'm sorry," I apologized to my now upset mother. "I wanted to come tell you sooner."

"I don't know if this is all a good idea. It's so soon, do you really even know her?"

"I know enough about her so far to know that she's amazing and I feel unbelievably lucky. I'm excited to get to know this woman. It's an adventure I'm prepared to make with her, hopefully with your support."

"Son, I just don't see this ending well and I don't want you to be hurt a year or two down the road. This isn't just something you can just dive into."

She looked at me with heavy concern in her eyes and it saddened me to know she wasn't happy about it like I was. "This summer, we talked about having a reception here for family and friends. I figured she and I could stay here in my room, you two could spend some time together and it would be a wonderful time."

"All of that does sound wonderful, but I don't think right now is a good time. End the marriage, take your time, and do it right." My mother spoke slowly. "I just want you to be happy in the long run."

When I came here, I expected a totally different reaction from my mother. I didn't think she would straight up tell me to end my marriage with Raegan and do it the right way. What is even the right way? This was the struggle with Raegan in the beginning and getting her to see the possibility of what could be an amazing adventure for us both. I didn't care this wasn't something traditional and I had hope to come here and received a mound of support from the women who raised me and always told me never to lose sight of what will make me happy. Raegan makes me happy. End of story.

I looked my mother in the eyes. "You know you're right, this has a possibility of not ending well. However, right now I couldn't be happier. She makes me happy and I wish you supported this choice I made like you've done with all my others." I stood to my feet and made my way to the door but before I opened the door to leave, I turned back to my mother still sitting on the couch. "I'm looking into some venues today and I hope you might reconsider supporting my marriage. She means a lot to me."

"You mean a lot to me."

I continued out the door, shutting it behind me. I unlocked the car I had rented for my time here and climbed in but I didn't start it. I was baffled by her lack of support and it slightly made me wish I hadn't made the trip here. I had hope she would have been excited and tagged along while I checked out things for reception. It would have been nice to have my mother with me for all these plan makings.

I brushed it off as much as I could, because I didn't want it to bother me. The only thing that bothered me now was how I would tell Raegan my mother wasn't for our decision on sticking with our abrupt and unplanned marriage. I knew she would be hurt because as the weeks went on, she was excited on getting to meet her.
