"Luke." What is he doing home already? I wasn't ready to tell him about Aiden. I wasn't ready to tell him anything. I stood there, speechless.
"Hey, stranger." He spoke, looking up from the ground, sliding his hands into his pockets. He's still kind of what I remember, that awkward blonde boy. He had this look on his face like he was happy to see me, but scared at the same time.
"Y-you're here a day early."I said. He shrugged his shoulders.
"Yeah, we got an earlier flight." He said, smirking. Before I knew it, my groceries were on the ground and I had already put down my son on the grass. I didn't realize how much I missed Luke until I jumped on him, into his arms. The arms I've missed for more than 2 years. I needed these arms when I became a disapointment. My legs were wrapped around his torso. I honestly missed him so much. Thinking about having him back and everything that's happened while he was gone made me start tearing up. It was so hard to hold back the tears.
"Oh my god, Luke. I've missed you so much." I say, not leaving his embrace. I started sobbing.
"Shh... It's ok Amy. I've missed you too." He says, trying to calm me down, petting the back of my head. I never want to leave his grip. Whenever he hugs me it's like time just stops. After what felt like hours, he finally puts me down. I take a step back and look at him. He had this sort of smirk on his face that I couldn't predict. He put his thumbs up onto my cheeks and wiped away my ruined mascara, still looking at me. I just looked at the ground, smiling. He pulled away his hands and looked behind me. "Now, who's that?" He asked, walking towards my baby boy, playing with is teddy bear. I walk over and squat beside him.
"This is Aiden." I said, kissing the top of his head.
"Is-is he yours?" He stutters, his smile some what fades. I nod my head, not saying a word. He looked at the ground, a worried look takes over his face. We stand there in silence for a good two minutes. "Wh-who's the dad?" He asked me, finally breaking the silence. I sigh, standing up and picking up Aiden.
"It's a long story." I grab my grocery bags and start walking to the door. Luke rushes over and grabs the bags from me.
"Let me get those for you." He says, smiling at me. I smile back. He runs to my trunk and grabs the rest of the bags, closing the door before catching up with me. I step onto my front porch and unlock my door, pushing the door open and throwing my keys into the bowl inside. I walked into the living room and put Aiden in his play corner, turning the tv on to Sesame Street. "Where do you want these?" Luke said, behind me.
"Oh, in the kitchen!" I say, walking over and grabbing a few bags. He follows me into the kitchen, puts the bags on the counter and starts helping me unpack.
"Where are your parents?" he asked me, putting away a box of Cheerios. I stop unpacking the bags and freeze, trying not to let any tears fall.
"it's... also a long story." I say. He looked at me with a puzzled look.
"I've got time for both of those long stories." he said, leaning against the counter top, crossing his arms and legs.
"Ok well it started off about 7 months before you guys left." I started off," There was this party that my friends made me go to. After my first couple of drinks, I didn't remember anything. I don't remember drinking much, I don't remember sleeping with anyone, I don't remember what happened after that. Not even the morning after when I woke up. Basically the whole night and most of the day after was all like I had a bad case of amnesia." I explained to him.
"Wow, not even a little bit?" he asked quietly. I shook my head. "What happened after all that?"
"4 months later, I found out I was pregnant because i never kept track of my period. And so after I got the nerve to tell my parents, they called me a slut and a disappointment and told me to get an abortion or else they would leave. I told them I'm not getting one because its basically murder, and they just packed their bags... and left." I slowly faded off. Luke didn't say anything. He just walked over and put his arm around my shoulders. I crossed my arms and rested my head on his shoulder. "What's wrong with me?" I mumble.
"Nothing'swrong with you. You're not a slut or a disappointment, Amy. You're a beautiful girl who's not afraid to show who she is. If you were a slut, I wouldn't be your best friend. Well I'd try to get in your pants, but still, you're not." He joked. I just laughed and slapped his arm. "You're my beautiful, funny, smart, outgoing best friend that I love. Im so glad I have you in my life!" he said. I just looked at him and wrapped my arms around him.
"Thank you, Luke. You have no idea how much I wanted you to be here. And I'm sorry for pushing you away before you left. " I said, my face smushed into his chest. " And that's why you're my best friend. You put up with all my bull shit." I look up at him and smile. "And I love you for that."
