Amelia's POV
"So you're telling me, you're a girl who plays hockey?" Ashton spoke, some shock in his tone with a chuckle to follow it up. We've been at the restaurant for almost two hours now, just talking, telling each other more about ourselves and laughing at corny jokes. We had a delicious dinner and appetizers. We both filled ourselves up on bread and spaghetti and meatballs. I can tell you this, neither of us had a clean face. As we stuffed our mouths, we couldn't help but laugh at the faces we were both making, which caused a few annoyed glances from older, snobby, rich couples around us.

"Yep!" I started. "Every Thursday I play for my school's team. I've been playing since I was 5." I took my napkin and wiped my mouth, taking off what was left of the spaghetti sauce.

"Wow, that's amazing!" He spoke. "What other sports do you play?" He asked, taking a sip of his drink.

"I play volleyball and softball!" I said, enthusiastically. "What about you? Do you play any sports or used to?" I asked, playing with my bracelet.

"Yeah, I used to play football and in year 12 I helped coach little kids." He said, a smile on his face.

"Aw, cute! I used to play when I was little." I said. I couldn't help but giggle. He gave me a curious look. "You still have some sauce on your face." I pointed out. He sat back, covering up his mouth. I grabbed my napkin and leaned over the table. "Come here." He leaned over, too, so I could wipe his mouth. As I'm wiping his face, I could feel his eyes staring into mine. I looked into his and my hand dropped. Our faces were inches apart. He then grabbed my chin with his thumb and forefinger, before he pressed his lips against mine. The kiss was light, but it was full of passion. My stomach felt like it was going to birst into thousands of butterflies, while my heart kept jumping hurdles in the olympics. He kept his lips on mine for what felt like forever. When he kissed me, it felt like time stopped. When he pulled away, his eyes never left mine. I could hear a few aw's around us as some of the other couples were looking at us.

"Oh, I adore to see young couples in love." One woman said, making my stomach flip. We're not in love! I wanted to shout, but I kept my cool. I look back at Ashton, who was smiling at me.
"What?" I asked, with a giggle. He kept smiling and shook his head.
"You're just beautiful." He spoke, smirking. A blush crept up on my cheeks, as my eyes looked down at the table. I watched as his finger snaked under my palm, before taking my hand in his. I looked back up into his eyes , almost getting lost in them. We both sit back in our chairs, our hands still in each others grasp. His thumb kept running over the back of my hand, making my stomach fill with butterflies. "Oh! I almost forgot!" He said, letting go of my hand. He leaned back in his chair, sliding his hand into his pocket. My facial expression changed into shock, as I watched him pull out a velvet box, placing it on the table, before sliding it my direction.
"A-Ashton." I stuttered. "You didn't have to do that." I spoke, placing my hand over my heart. "I'm not worth it."
"You're worth every penny. Heck, you're worth a thousand oceans." he spoke. "Now, go on." He looked down at the box. I grab the box, running my thumb over the black velvet. I look back up at him. He nods, signalling me to continue. I look back down at the box. I hesitate, before lifting the top up. Inside, was the ruby butterfly wing necklace that I saw in the jewelry store. My mouth was agape as I covered it with my hand, as a gasp escaped my lips. My finger traced the gorgeous rubies, as my mind tried to take all this in. I look up at Ashton, a tear started forming in my eye.
"Oh my god. Ashton." I said, a smile now forming on my face. I sniffled. "Thank you so much." I lean across the table and peck him on the lips. I take him into my embrace, his arms then taking me in his. "Thank you." I whispered. He pulled away and spotted the tear running down my cheek. He took his thumb and wiped it away. I giggled, before smiling wide again. I sat back down and looked at the necklace again. "This is incredible." I spoke. "I don't know how I can ever repay you.' I looked back up at him, but he shook his head and shrugged his shoulders.
"It's no problem. You don't need to pay me back." He spoke. "As long as I have you," he paused, before grabbing my hand. " that's all ill never need." he then smirked, showing off his dimples. I blushed at his remark. "How about some dessert?" he asked, grabbing the dessert menu. "Ooh... chocolate mountain cake! Wanna split?" he asked. I nodded.

I kept tossing and turning... and grunting. I just couldn't get to sleep tonight. I sigh as I reach over and grab my phone. 1:30AM the time read. I sigh as I throw my blankets off. Ashton stayed in the guest room tonight. I didn't wanna wake him up when I got ready for school, so I slept alone. I make my way to the bathroom, turning the tap on the sink. I splash some water on my face, letting out a deep breath. I stand there for a minute, holding onto both sides of the sink. I have never noticed many of my features on my face before, like the light brown freckles that dotted my cheeks and the bridge of my nose, or the way my blue eyes had tones of green and grey, or even my plump lips that had a pink tone to them. I never really noticed any of it really. I grab a nearby towel and dab my face dry. I rub my eyes as I walk back to bed.
Before I lay down, I notice a circle of light on my wall. I smile, before reaching for my flashlight, flashing the light through my window. The light in my room disappeared and I turn off the flashlight, before grabbing my fuzzy slippers. Before leaving my room, I noticed a bag by my desk. I grabbed it and pulled out a stuffed penguin. I smiled as I remembered why I bought this. I hold the penguin under my arm, as I made my way downstairs.
I step outside and a shiver went over me. It was cooler than most nights. I walk behind the house and spotted Luke wrapped up in a blanket, sitting behind a fire. I walk up beside him, standing by the fire. "Cool night, isn't it." I spoke. He seemed startled, like he was thinking hard about something. He jumped when I spoke up.
"Oh, hey." He said. He unwrapped himself from the blanket, opening it up. I smile and snuggle in next to him, laying my head on his shoulder and wrap my arm around him. We sat in silence for a few minutes, before I finally spoke up.
"What were you thinking so hard about?" I spoke softly. He tensed up, before speaking.
"Nothing. Just... stuff." He mumbled. He was lying, I could tell. It kind of hurt that he wasn't telling me the truth.
"Luke." I started. "You're not fooling me. We're best friends! We're close enough to tell each other anything! Now, what's on your mind?" He sighed.
"There's something I've gotta tell you." He spoke. Now I'm the one that's tense.
"What is it?" I asked. He hesitated, before continuing.
"Me... a-and..."
"Spit it out, Luke. I won't judge you." I spoke, putting my hand on his shoulder.
"Ok." He said. He took a deep breath. "Me and Katie are dating." He spit out. My jaw dropped as I sat up.
"Shut up!" I slapped his shoulder. He smirked. "Since when?!"
"Monday." He blushed.
"You dog!" I joked. We both laughed. "You really like her don't you?" I asked. He paused for a second.
"Y-yeah, I guess." He spoke. I sighed, before putting my head back on his shoulder.
"You know I'm happy for you, considering some of your other relationships were really shitty." I said, thinking about Luke's previous girlfriends. They all acted nice at first, but turned out to be a total bitch and/or slut. The reason he broke up with them all was because they wanted him to end our friendship, but we promised to not let relationships get between us.
"Of course I do. You're my best friend for a reason." He said. I smiled whenever he said I was his best friend because I know our friendship would never end.
"Oh!" I shout up. "I have something for you." I smiled. "Remember how I was supposed to owe you a penguin?" I asked. He nodded. I take the blanket off of my shoulder and pull out the penguin from underneath my arm. "Well, here you go." I hold it up infront of him, then his face went surprised and he had a big smile on his face.
"Oh my god!" He chuckled. "This is great! Thank you." He said, smiling at me. I smile back, before he pulled me into his embrace. I wrap my arms around him, pulling the blanket back up. I rest my head in the crook of his neck, while he rested his head on top of mine. His arms then snaked around my waist, keeping me even warmer. My eyes flutter close as we're just sitting there, relaxed. Soon enough, the sound of the crackling fire faded as I then drifted off to sleep.
