I heard whispering as I walked out of my room, "he's not there. He died long ago. He was never there to begin with," they were subtle but they were there eating away at my sanity. I walked out onto the stone path way, a staff in hand and a hood over my head. It was dark out and everyone should be asleep. I took a deep breath as I entered the woods. They are not real I reminded myself. I had lied to Ash earlier. I still had hallucinations they are just uncommon and like everything else they are getting worse, much worse. I practiced, I practiced longer and harder than ever before. The whispers grew and morphed turning into screams in my head.
I heard a crunch behind me. I turned around to receive a face to the whispers. It was one of the Elders. He was wearing a dark cloak and his face was shrouded in darkness. "He's still dead and it's all your fault," the voice screamed.
"Ple- please get out of my head," my voice was a muffled plea as the screams brought tears to my eyes.
"Kaitlin," it wasn't an Elder who spoke, it was Mason calming voice but I couldn't see him.
My vision blurred back as a shadowy figure appeared around Mason, "you'll will kill him to," it said holding a dagger to his throat.
Mason walked closer to me, trying to make me feel safe. "No, no," my voice was weak. "Get away from me!" I didn't want to kill him. He didn't get away infact he continued walking towards me.
I was not prepared to face my past so I turned around and ran and I didn't stop. I ran from my problems, my past, my failures, my enemies, my broken promises, and my shadow. But I knew it wouldn't help. Nothing would help. The thing that causes my fear will always be with me. It will always beat me to the light at the end of the tunnel. But I ran anyways. I heard Mason yell my name but he couldn't run fast enough.
I see a ledge in front of me but I keep running. And I fall, deeper into the well, and hit the ground but I still haven't hit the bottom of the well. I don't see how far I fell because I instantly fall into darkness.
"Kaitlin," a voice whimpered from afar but it can do nothing to save me.
