Being a Hero is a Tough Job

Chapter 25

Serenity's POV

While we were re-watching Frozen, the twins started to become fidgety with wanting to know what was next with our past which was a hard hitter. I allowed Barry to tell them the story from his point of view because I wasn't around that much due to visiting Felicity and Ollie in Star City with the twins at that time. Every once in a while Barry would pause leaving a silent audience which I could tell he was trying to form how he would tell the twins how Ralph had died during that time. 

Before he got to the part of telling the twins about his death, I got up and sat next to Barry to hold his hand and comfort him knowing that talking about this topic with the twins is hard even if we've told them about Barry's dad and mom. Once he did say it and finished that story off we waited for the response from the twins. 

"Dad you're lying." Dawn said. 

"Yeah, uncle Ralph is alive." DJ said agreeing with his twin sister. 

"Kids, uncle Ralph did survive but you've got to understand it was because of an outcome that happened." I said and they looked at me confused. 

"Your mom is right, Dawn and DJ." Barry said. 

"How tell us?" DJ asked with Dawn nodding her head. 

"We won't tell you till we get to that part." I said while the twins argued a little but with no prevail. 

"Come on, now it's late." I said noticing the time, "Let's get ready for bed." 

I helped Dawn while Barry helped DJ. Once the two were tucked in their beds, we kissed their foreheads before heading to our room. Barry and I then prepared to sleep as well and while I finished up I saw Barry spacing out. 

"You good?" I asked and walked to Barry and tilted his head to look at me. 

"Just having to think about that situation all over again has me thinking about being a hero." He said. 

I nodded my head and said, "Well that's what we signed up for. No one ever said being a hero was easy and if it was everyone would become a hero. Being a hero is a tough job." 

"You're right but what happens if the twins as teenagers join this job?" He asked while thinking about that situation. 

"Well we can support them and help them through it as mentors. They can choose which one to join SHIELD or Young Justice." I said and then walked to get into bed with Barry following me. 

"No matter what they choose, they'll be helped." I said. 

"Because we'll be there for them." He said and I nodded my head before pecking his lips. 

"God I love you." He said. 

"And I love you too." I said.
