"Do you want to talk it out?"

The question snaps me out of my thoughts and I tear my eyes away from the passing vehicles and buildings to stare at him.

Jonathan has his eyes on the road and his profile doesn't give away his emotion but I've known him long enough to tell he's anxious.

Perhaps it's because of the way he taps his fingers against the steering wheel, or the fact that despite the air conditioning and the chill weather, there are beads of sweat on his forehead.

"About what?" My voice is low and slightly cracked.

"Why you were crying when I came in."

I squint as I peruse him. He's not judging me. Of course, he isn't. He doesn't pity me either. That's just not his style. When he walked in on me crying, he just held me until I stopped, then he helped me pack my hair, apply makeup which he was scarily good at thanks to makeup.

The image of him helping Mason put on makeup appears in my head and my face heats up.

"I assume it's because you miss Imogen or because you're scared of what we may discover today?"

"No... Yes... It's complicated." I pick at my nails.

"Okay." He nods as he pulls up to a red light which gives him the opportunity to look at me.

He's gorgeous. He always is. Not in the Mason kind of way. Mason is unbelievably pretty. Jonathan is handsome. Somehow, it makes sense to me.

His dark hair is slicked back in a way that makes him look older than he is. He's in a plaid shirt on crisp blue pants that reminds me of a youth pastor. Somehow, he makes it a look pulled straight out of a fashion magazine.

I wait for him to press me about why I was crying. He doesn't. He just stares at me in that way that he does. That way that makes me feel like I'm the most important girl in the world and it causes guilt to grow within me.

"Mason and I kissed on Friday," I blurt out. His expression doesn't change. He simply nods. "Wait! You knew?"

"Wasn't I supposed to?" He chuckles. "Mase was quieter than usual. He didn't even tease Jase for moaning about his unrequited affection for Cece."

The light changes and Jonathan looks away from me and back onto the road. I look outside and I'm startled by the difference in scenery. The houses are getting bigger, further apart, and everything looks a lot prettier than my street.

We must be close.

I look back to Jonathan. He's the kind of driver that doesn't take his eyes off the road. He obeys every rule, keeps his car in pristine shape. Its so clean and organized and smells like him. It's so unlike Mason's which is filled with so much decor that just feels like Mason.

Another difference is the silence. Jonathan drives without music, Mason loves so sing aloud as he drives in a very carefree manner that's borderline reckless.
