You sit in silence. Not knowing how to take in the information. It feels like your throat has closed up and your lungs stopped working.
"Is...is he okay?" You whisper. Calum take a deep breath.
"He's in a coma from the overdose. We got to him quickly enough that he wasn't dead, but he hasn't woken up." There is another long moment of stunned silence.
"We want you to with us to the hospital he's at," Michael adds. There seems to be pauses in between every sentence people say.
"When?" You haven't taken your eyes off of the spot on the floor they've been locked onto.
"Tomorrow, we've already taken care of the tickets so all you have to do is pack." Ashton sets his hand on your shoulder again.
Tomorrow isn't that far away, It's already almost midnight, and you know that sleep won't come tonight.
You go into the room you sometimes share with Luke. You have one drawer of yout clothes in his dresser, and mindlessly you shove the entire contents of the drawer into one of his old suitcases.
A few minutes later you find yourself sitting on the couch. The apartment is mostly dark and the rest of the boys are in their rooms, probably laying sleepless in their beds.
You feel someone come up behind you and turn your head quickly to see ashton standing by the couch with two cups of coffee in his hands.
"Sorry," he whispers, sitting down next to you and handing you the coffee. You rest your head on his shoulder and he takes a deep breath.
"I should have seen it coming," Ashton says. You remain quiet, waiting for him to continue. "Almost immediately after the tour started he got really quiet. I tried to ask him what's wrong but he would dismiss it by saying he just missed you, or he was exhausted from the shows, or he didn't feel good.
"It was always the same excuses. After a couple of months we did get a little suspicious, but we didn't question it." I hear Ashton's voice crack a little bit and know that he's started to cry, so have you.
"Ashton it's not your fault," your voice sounds strained and high pitched. "There was nothing you could have done, you didn't know." You do your best to comfort each other, but Ashton decides to change the subject.
"So, a baby," he says.
"Yeah, a baby," you respond in the same tone. He chuckles lightly.
"Wow," he whispers. "How are you feeling about it?"
"At first I was really scared," you answer honestly. "But Y/F/N helped me. It was her idea to make it a surprise."
"Wait, so you mean that every time we called you, every time we Skyped, you had a baby in you?" You laugh a little.
"Yep, there was a baby in there the whole time." I'm glad that these boys always find a way to pop in a little bit of humor during sad times.
"So do you have some ideas?"
"For what?"
"Your baby's name!" he says as though it was obvious.
"Oh, um...I don't know. I guess I've thought about it a little but I don't want to set my heart on a name that Luke doesn't like." Ashton nods his head.
"I understand," he says. A little smile creeps onto your face.
"But I do have some ideas," your smile grows wider and wider as you think about the names that you came up with.
