"Wait!" Michael yells. He runs into his and Ashton's room. He doesn't come out after a few minutes and you begin to grow impatient.
"Michael what the heck?" I yell. Ashton stands up and heads into the room, and he's gone for a few minutes too. I stand up from the couch in the awkward pregnant way that Calum always finds hilarious.
"Don't say a word Calum." I glare playfully at him. When I walk into the boys room, there are clothes all over the floor, spilling out of their suitcases. "What the heck happened in here?" I ask and Ashton's head pops up from the other side of the bed.
"I found it!" Michael yells.
"Found what?"
"The camera," Ashton answers. He and Michael run out to the living room and plop down onto their seats on one of the couches.
"Okay, are we ready yet?" I ask when you finally make it back down to your spot next to Sarah. Calum giggles at my struggle to sit. "Shut up Calum!"
Calum puts his hand on his chest, pretending to be offended. I feel as though the light mood is good for everyone, so I try to squeeze some kind of humor in whenever I can.
Butterflies flutter in I stomach as I anticipate what's in the mysterious box.
"Okay, but before we start..."
Oh my go's seriously??? I think to myself. I know that she's doing this to me on purpose. There was already a delay to find the camera.
"Hope, I just wanted to congratulate you. You've survived these past few months, and you neither went insane, not did you drive these boys insane," she says with a laugh. I look around and study everyone's faces.
Ashton's wearing his famous half grin.
Michael sits staring at the box like it it's about to explode, and grinning like he's the one who planted the dynamite.
But when I look over at Calum, he's not looking at the box, or Sarah as she gives an adorable but rather cheesy speech. He's looking at me, and gives me a reassuring nod.
"My point is," she finishes, "you are going to be one hell of a mom." I look back over at her and see her eyes glistening with moisture.
Seeing her tear up sparks up my hormones and emotions and makes me tear up as well. Damn, crying again.
"Awe!" I say, giving her a tight hug.
"Okay, now let's open this box!" she says, clapping her hands together then wiping the tears from her cheeks. She takes the silver box from her lap and sets it in mine.
Impulsively I untie the bow and toss it onto the floor, but then I stop. No one says anything. The tension in the room is so high that I can almost smell it.
I feel everyone's eyes one me, hot like lasers. My heart is in my throat as my hands rest, ready to open the lid of the box that holds something that could change the rest of my life.
Finally I rip off the top, my eyes pinched shut.
And when I open them, inside the box I see a little blue blanket.
