Zoë and Rhyan walked away a little so they could talk in private. From where they stood they could see the basic shapes and silhouettes of Camp Half Blood."We want you to join the Hunters of Artemis." There it was. No small talk or beating round the bush.
"I... What about the boys? Noah? And Oliver?" She asked as she looked back at the camp. It was clear that the boys were the keys to her heart and quite frankly, her final decision.
"Look. I know that yee not stupid so I'm going to be quite plain. Boys are a no. You know what being a demigod means. You know the risks and rules. So I will ask you, Will you join us?"
Rhyan didn't know how Zoë knew that she knew about the hunters and demigods before arriving at Camp Half Blood but she guessed it was one of those magical hunter things.
"I want to join, I really do..." Rhyan whined but the slight gleem of nerves in her eyes told Zoë that there was more to the story than just going. There was going to be a but.
"But, I'd want to know that the boys are fully settled and safe here first."
Zoë nodded. That she could understand as she had once also had siblings that loved her and she knew for a fact that she would do the same for the hunters and her Lady Artemis.
"Once that's sorted, I'd have no problem joining the hunters. No boy issues, freedom and a sister.... or 100. What's not to like! Just as long as I know the boys are safe then I'd be happy swearing off love... as long as I can keep in contact with them."
"Contact with them would be fine as they are family not ... love intrests. And to be most truthful, you can join any time as long as you are sure about it." Zoë spoke with such deep emotion that Rhyan was sure of what she was going to do.
"I will not be joining the hunters just yet. Give me 2 years. By that time the boys will have settled, my mind will be more focused and I should have found myself by then... I hope."
Zoë nodded. "So be it. In 730 days we will return. And when that happens, you shall make thy final decision."
By the time Rhyan and Zoë got back to the center of Camp Half Blood several people were crouding round where she and Oliver were previously sitting.
Oliver looked strange, like really strange. He looked nervous. An expression that was usually worn by Rhyan or Noah. Not Oliver. Eventually Rhyan managed to push through the crouds. "Hey Oli, what's wro- Oh my good giddy aunt. Oli. Don't panic but there is a floating firey hammer above your head."
"Suprise?" Smiled Oliver sheepishly.
"You boy have been claimed by Hephaestus." Said one of the campers.
Oliver instantly started fidgeting and looked down. He hated talking to people out side his own small family. Usually Oliver was a calm child. Not really scared of anything. Except this, he dispised people talking to him that he didn't know. If it wasn't Rhyan or Noah he fidgeted and flitted around like a blue-assed fly. Now was one of these moments. An older Hephaestus camper stepped forward. A girl with big bushy brown hair, buck teeth and warm almond eyes crouched down to his hight.
"What's your name little Bro? Mines Terri Drag."
"O-oliver Agrawal. And my sister's name is Rhyan, Not Terri Drag."
The campers looked over to Rhyan then back at the boy trying to see any sibling resembles. Oliver was tall for his age ,Rhyan was not. Oliver had green eyes, Rhyan had blue. Oliver was Indian, Rhyan was not. They didn't look similar at all.Rhyan gave Oliver a look and he apologised to Terri. "I'm sorry. That was rude." Terri smiled and offered to show Oliver where the hephaestus cabin was. Oliver agreed and off they went to the cabin.
It looked like both her boys had been claimed and she was still left on her own in the hermes cabin with who ever else had not been claimed.
•~*~•~*~•~*~•~*~•
That night Rhyan couldn't sleep. She didn't know why but if she was to take a guess it would have been because she was sleeping on her own for the first time in years. Even before the streets she never slept on her own. Noah would always have nightmares and have to snuggle against her to sleep- Even more so after the cyclops killed his mum. Noah lost his mum that day but Rhyan.... she lost her sister. When she died Rhyan and Noah went to the streets and lived with Oliver where the three would fall asleep on each other for warmth.
Although Rhyan was in the hermes cabin, filled with other campers she still felt alone, although they were distant family in one godly way or another, to her they were just strangers who shared similar genes. She convinced herself for years that when she slept with Oliver and Noah it was to protect them but truly, it was so Rhyan felt protected.
After hours of lying awake Rhyan finally managed to hypnotise herself into a light and fitful sleep.
•~*~•~*~•~*~•~*~•
Rhyan woke much earlier than the rest of her Hermes cabin mates so she decided to explore. The boys had given her a tour yesterday but they were so exited that they wizzed through everything without giving Rhyan a chance to look at anything.
Rhyan wandered for a little while, when she heard her name being called.
Chiron came trotting up to her. "Couldn't sleep?" Rhyan shook her head in reply. "Me either."
Chiron and Rhyan walked in scilence for a few yards before Chiron broke the scilence.
"Rhyan, I've been meaning to talk to you." Rhyan nodded. "You seem unfazed by finding out that you were a demigod, and that is usually quite a strange thing for anyone to take in. This has lead me to a cirtain conclusion about you Rhyan Theft."
Chiron and Rhyan looked each other in the eye- gunmetal blue meeting hickory brown.
"You already knew about demigods."
