Breakfast was eventful to say the least. Again, Rhyan noticed both boys subtle flinching and hisses of pain for the 5th time in a row and always in a different place. She wanted answers - and she was going to get them one way or another."Boys, what excuse are you going to use today?"
"What do you mean?" Noah awnsered not making eye contact.
"Oliver?" Oliver looked straight down at the table with a new found fascination. "Boys. I will find out, you know I will." They both nodded and carried on with their breakfasts.
"Hey Rhyan." Julia came running over to the hermes table, her stomach having almost bring completely healed. "Oh hi Noah. I've been meaning to say thanks for patching me up but you seem to be nowhere to be found."
Noah looked down joining Oliver with his table fascination. "Oh... um it was nothing.""So Rhyan we're going to the climbing wall this morning so hopefully it'll be more successful than the sparring matches." Julia giggled grabbing herself a plate and piling food onto it before running off to sit with her friends.
Breakfast was quickly over and the campers divided to their cabin to get their activities. As Julia had said the unclaimed campers were doing the climbing wall but not just the climbing wall. A fitness circuit designed by the other campers. First off the campers were taught what to do at each point while the other cabins created a circuit to test them.
Rhyan looked around- the campers had got themselves into small groups of 4 or 5 as instructed, to make it easier to do the circuit. Nothing out of the usual. Not until she spotted a small boy a about her age looking quite frankly dead.
She looked around, everyone was listening to the rules.
She sneaked back slowly then jogged to the boy. He didn't notice her standing next to him.
Now she was next to him she could see that he wasn't a boy at all. He had ginger hair, the traditional camp top, and a set of reed pipes but that wasn't the strangest thing ;he had the hind quaters of a goat.
He was a saytar.
"Hey?" No reaction. She called again. No reaction. She put her hand on his shoulder. He jumped, spun round and bleeted nervously, almost hitting her as he turned-Definitely a reaction.
"Are you OK? Your pale as a sheet."
"So would you be if someone creeped up on you." He replied grabbing his chest.
"Sorry let's start over." She stuck out her hand. Tentatively, he shook it. "What's got you so bothered?"
"I've got to go out and get a new demi-god. But I'm really worried about it. It's in one of the most monster infested parts." He spoke with the occasional bleet.
Rhyan assumed it was his first time getting a new demi God. "You're entitled to be nervous. It's a difficult job but you wouldn't have been sent on it if you weren't ready." The conversation went on for another 15 minutes and by the time it was over the young saytar had some more colour back in his cheeks.
"Looks like it's your teams turn for the circuit. Have fun." The saytar got up and went to leave. "I'm Rhyan by the way." Rhyan called only now realising she hadn't introduced herself.
"I'm Grover."
•~*~•~*~•~*~•~*~•
Rhyan was back with her team and they were about to do the circuit, apparently the team was competeing against each other as well as the other teams. As it turned out there were 8 tasks, each representing a cabin and it's campers.
The tasks went in reverse order so first off it was the Dionysus cabin. The task was wading through grape vines and collecting a golden grape. Sounded simple enough but it wasn't. The vines grew in thick strands, all tieing together to drag you down. The further in you got the thicker the vines got.
Each vine was snagging on Rhyan's clothes, pulling her back. Some grapes had popped covering he in grape juice and making it increasingly difficult not to slip. She was almost at the end, she charged through the vines to come face to face with her next task designed by the hermes cabbin.
It was a test of agility and speed. Infront of her was a pit of nothingness. Just a hole with a rope to walk across and some swinging monkey bars. Rhyan chose the monkey bars. They were tough and the metal gave her blisters but she got to the end only to find the climbing wall. Easy she thought. Wrong. Some of the notches were tricks others weren't even stuck on while others moved. At the top of the wall was nothing. Just a sheer drop and a few coins. She looked behind her. Her team mates were catching up. She got to the edge if the ledge. There was no other way down.
'Lord hermes grant me safe travel through this drop.' And with that thought in mind she dropped herself over the ledge.
The drop landed Rhyan in to the next task. A room with a mirror and not much else. Aphrodite she guessed.
She looked around. Nothing. She went over to the mirror. There was no reflection, just fog and darkness. 'Strange' she thought. Then it showed a woman. She was tall, slightly tan skin with sandy blonde hair and dark brown eyes.
"... Mum..." Rhyan murmured, she could feel her eyes filling with tears. It had been years since she'd seen her mum and now all the memories came back at once.
Her mum put her hand to the glass and Rhyan mimicked her movements. Her mum locked fingers with her through the glass and pulled her in. By the time Rhyan turned round, her mum was gone and she was on her own in the fourth task. She could see her teammates in the glass behind her, they were catching up. She wiped her eyes for the last time and ventured off down the tunnel to the hephaestus task.
A/N- how was it? I know it was pretty bad at the beginning and probably at the end to but hey I tried.
