It was dark by the time Crash agreed to settle down for the night. Birch and Rhyan set up camp while Crash kept watch. They'd been lucky so far, no attacks yet.Rhyan kept glancing over at the tence boy. He needed to relax. If he didn't there could be another issue.
"I'm going to find some food." Rhyan stated.
"We have food in the bag."
"We might need it later."
Rhyan stood up from the small fire and foraged around for food. It was quite difficult considering she wasn't used to the terrain of the forest but she managed to find some berries. Perhaps she was going to have to use the reserves from her pack after all.
She came back from her trip with her pockets full of berries to see Birch roasting something that looked like a small rodent on the fire - a rabbit.
Crash was still on the look out. Birch checked the berries and served the chunks of rabbit and berries.
"Crash ,man, come and eat."
Crash looked over to them, had an inner debate with himself then joined them. They sat in silence as they ate.
"I'll take first watch." Rhyan said, getting up to take the watch post.
"No. We'll go 2 at a time. That way no one has the opportunity to betray the other 2." Crash glared at Rhyan. There was no doubt about it. He didn't trust her.
"I'll still take first watch. Just with someone else."
"I'll do it." Birch piped up finishing off his food. Crash nodded and seemed to relax. Birch was obviously some kind of safety blanket for Crash, which in some ways Rhyan understood. She'd had the boys as long as she could remember and even now that she knew they were safe she couldn't help but wish they were there with her.
Rhyan woke to the smell of burned bread and the sound of snoring. Crash was burning a sandwich and praying to the gods. "For luck," He said.
Rhyan nodded. The gods were basically ancient arseholes whom messed up a lot, died a few times and got others to fix their issues. How lucky could they be?
She didn't voice her issues. She didn't want an argument.
•~*~•~*~•~*~•~*~•
Rhyan was getting fresh water when she noticed the purple handprints round her throat going. The once large splodges has turned into small pea sized blotches.
Had Crash really ment to try and kill her? That one thought plagued her mind over and over. She shook her head clear of it. No, it was probably some kind of superiority complex.... or maybe it was an Ares thing....
Rhyan looked down at her watch, she had been gone 20 minutes. "I should probably get back now..."
Rhyan began to rise when a nymph stopped her. "Too late."
The nymph was bearly a shrub but she looked strong. "You're too late. Take your swords."
"What do you mean?"
"The other two are under attack." Rhyan dropped her water canteen and ran back to the makeshift camp.
Rhyan couldn't see either Crash or Birch.
"Hey Rhyan, over here!" She heared Crash call out. But something seemed wrong. It sounded like Crash, but he didn't talk like Crash. He'd called her Rhyan- not Theft.
Rhyan sat and waited behind a bush. "Rhyan." Crash called again.
"Rhyannnnn!" The name called out trailing off at the end into a harsh, clogged up growl. Definitely not Crash...
