Chapter 2: Arrivals

*Beep Beep* *Beep Beep* *Beep Beep*

I groaned and rolled over, reaching on my bedside table to silence the alarm on my phone. I'd set my alarm at 7.00am, extra early for me, so that I could pack up my car and set off in enough time to have the day and arrive for initiations at the resort. I pulled myself out of bed and rubbed the tired out of my eyes. I hopped in the shower, washed my hair and grabbed a towel. Opening my wardrobe I scanned the rail to see what decent outfit I had left that I hadn't packed, it needed to be good if this was the first time I was meeting everyone at the resort. I didn't wanna be pilled in with the strange ones on the first day.

Luckily I hadn't packed my white roll neck top, or one of my many plain black denim skirts. A simple outfit always does the trick. I put a long chained coin pendant necklace over my head and put some hooped earrings in. I turned my hair straighteners on and did my makeup while I waited for them to properly heat up. After I'd finished I made sure to pack the makeup bag and straighteners into my handbag; a girl's worst nightmare would be forgetting these two items on a 3-month summer get away.

I looked in my full-length mirror before exiting my room, I guess I looked mildly good on the scale of the history of my appearances. I rolled my suitcase along and swung my handbag over my shoulder, made sure my car keys, purse, and phone were all on my person, turned the lights off and shut the door. I didn't bother going into my parent's room to say goodbye as knew they'd have already left for work an hour ago. I left my things in the hallway and walked into the kitchen, I switched on the copper coated kettle and grabbed a breakfast bar. I made a coffee in my travel flask to take on the journey and decided to throw another breakfast bar in my bag in case I felt snacky on the way.

I poured my coffee, made sure all the lights and appliances were off, grabbed my bag and went outside to the driveway. I heaved the suitcase into the boot of my rusty, probably too illegal to be driving ford fiesta and slammed the door shut. Wow, I really should have cleaned the inside of this car out before I went away. I looked around and noticed for the first time all the old McDonalds wrappers that Liv and Hannah had left in my car after our Mcdonalds trips on school days during lunchtime. It was all pilled in the back seat from where they'd both been sitting, they'd managed to hide it away from me since I never sat in the back of my own car.

Despite the messy car, I was ready. I made the final step to turn the engine on, buckled up my seatbelt and started the drive to my new home for the summer. The excitement to be working as part of the fairground ride's team at Butlins Bognor Regis Holiday camp was building as I started the drive. I smiled as I drove, thinking about the fact I'd always looked up to the redcoats when I was a kid and always loved the idea of being part of the behind the scenes staff. I used to visit with my mum every summer, even up to the age of 16 despite it being targetted for family holidays for young children, I still enjoyed it as an angsty teen. I used to go around the resort with the Butlins Passport they gave visitors and get all the redcoats photos autographed. They always looked like they were a tight friendship group with inside jokes having the time of their lives with the best jobs ever. I was excited to be part of that, I couldn't wait to spend the next 3 months in the seaside town; my last escape from reality before I hit the real world and started University.

The trees flew past as I drove onto the slip road leading to the motorway. The truth was that my ideal summer would have been working in an American summer camp as a camp councillor but the flights were £3,000 and I had about 56p in my bank, and actually wanted to earn money this summer instead of spending it. Working at Butlins was the next best thing and there was nothing I didn't like about it, I got free accommodation the whole summer with the job because I could be on call for extra hours, and the money was good.
