Jason walked down the corridor that his bedroom door led to. There was a number of doors leading down the hallway, I assumed these were all other bedrooms, very similarly laid out to some of the university halls I had looked around for open days. I was surprised when he stopped outside a door that was only 5 doors down from his own room.
Jason pulled the key out, put it in the lock and swung the door open.
"This is mine?" The answer was pretty obvious, but I was surprised the boys' and girls' rooms weren't separated.
"Yeah, we're basically neighbors." Jason grinned, motioning for me to come in the room.
I stepped inside, following him. The room layout was exactly the same as Jason's, only there was no bedding set up on the bed and no pictures on the walls. The only things in the room were somehow my suitcase, and duvet laid out on the bottom of the bed.
"How'd my stuff get here?" That was weird, I'd never unpacked anything from my car and I locked it and had the keys in my bag the whole time. In fact, where was my bag?
I looked around the room and finally saw it at the foot of the bed. Oh.
"You fell asleep in my bed so me and Luke took your keys off you and brought everything in late last night, or early morning, depending on how you see it," Jason explained, walking over the sit on the bed.
My heart melted, that was actually really sweet of them.
"Thanks." I gave him a genuine smile.
"Need any help with anything else?" He pointed to my suitcase.
"Oh no, that's okay. I'll just chill out and unpack for the rest of the day. I need to facetime my friends from home and stuff anyway." He nodded. "But thank you so much, you've been so amazing since I've got here. And what I do remember of last night was really fun!" He stood up from the bed and I went over to hug him.
"No worries, Lottie." He held the hug then pulled away. "Don't forget, staff dinners at 6.30 so be ready for then. I'll come and get you." He placed my key down on the nightstand and waved goodbye as he walked back down the corridor to his own room.
I smiled to myself, I'd already made a best friend on the second day. This summer was going to be so fun. I turned back around to my suitcase, lifted it up on the bed and started putting my folded clothes away in the wardrobe, hanging my towels up in the bathroom, placing my toiletries in the shower, putting my makeup bag and hair tools by the mirror, and finally faced the task of making the bed. The double duvet cover and pillowcases were the last things in my suitcase; the resort had told us to bring our own bedding, so I had bought a new set as a treat to myself. It was white with green succulent plants printed over it, I tried going for a minimalistic, plant-based aesthetic. I sigh and began the challenge.
I turned the duvet cover inside out, pinching both corners and lining it up with the duvet cover, I tried shimmying it in but managed to get the cover stuck over my head in the process.
"Gah!" I rummaged around, attempting to find the exit but only burrowed myself deeper inside.
"You okay there?" A male voice came from the entrance of the room.
I turned around, still inside the duvet cover. I must have looked a right site to be seen.
"No." I simply answered.
They chuckled "Here, let me help." I felt arms around me for a second, then the duvet cover was being lifted up and suddenly I could see again.
I blinked. Luke stood in front of me, my duvet cover in his hands.
"Err, thanks!" I smiled. I was not expecting for it to be him.
"It's fine, I didn't want you suffocating in there." He smirked, leaning against my wall.
Was it me or did he get better looking every time I saw him I could feel my cheeks tinging pink.
"So, er, did you have a good night last night?" I asked him, attempting to make conversation. He was kind of intimidatingly good looking.
He smirked at me as if he knew something I didn't.
"Not as good as you, it seems." Oh shit. I'd momentarily forgotten he saw me in a drunk, messy state, practically admitting my love for him in front of him and Emily last night.
"Sorry about that, first drink in a while or something like that..." I trailed off and he shook his head in amusement.
"Thanks for helping bring my stuff in, you're a lifesaver." I looked into his bright blue eyes and smiled up at him.
"Anything for you." He didn't break eye contact.
I laughed awkwardly at his comment.
"We find our rota's out officially tonight after dinner, but I got wind that you're on go-karts with me tomorrow, just a heads up." His eyes wandered around my room as he talked, landing on my set of drawers. I followed his direction and saw one of my bra's hanging out.
"Sounds fun!" My voice got louder, stealing his attention away from my underwear drawer.
He let out a breathy laugh, did his little salute motion again, turned around and on his way out said, "See you at dinner, don't suffocate again."
"Bye!" I spoke loudly as he exited the room. I heard the door of the next room to me open then close, my eyes widened when I realized it must be Luke's room.
He really was the boy next door.
