she looked up from the phone she was overly attached to, the smile slowly disappearing from her face as she became aware of her surroundings that her friends, even through a screen, were distracting her from. her room was small yet cosy, similar to her one back home but more LA- if that even made sense. it made the whole place feel oddly familiar, even though she had only inhabited it for a mere day or two. the more she stared at the grey wall however, the less familiar she became with it, noticing small differences like the missing of a dent that bruised the surface of her wall back home from when her and her friend had their first proper drink at a sleepover in year 8 and danced around a little too crazy.
she was happy thinking of those small, silly memories.
sighing she left the cramped room, walking into her shared living room where strange faces lay, all awaiting her presence. "hiya, you must be violet! the party is just round the corner from here so we don't need to leave just yet" the blonde haired one chirped, patting the seat next to her. violet unconsciously did something she always did when she began to feel nervous; pulling the phone from her pocket and checking the time.
"thanks for inviting me guys, i'm not going to pretend that i have the faintest idea what a frat party is, beyond what you see in films, but i'm pretty bloody excited". the outgoing girl spoke, breaking the silence that had fallen upon the roommates. "no problem, don't expect anything too crazy, us four aren't really the party type. we just thought it's only fair to show you your first one" the red head replied, as violet discreetly rolled her eyes. the below the knee floral dresses, minimalist makeup and sensible hair cuts should have warned the poor girl. of course she would be paired with this bunch, after coming all the way from england to LA and expecting to be shown a good time.
"wow this is a little different from a night out in england" violet gasped as they walked up to a large house, the bright neon lights spilling out from the windows, every now again blocked by dancing bodies. "how so?" one of the girls, whose name, along with the others, voilet had not bothered to memorise. she took a deep breath, the alcohol in her system making her feel more talkative; "well normally you have pre drinks at a shitty student flat kitchen where you drink way too much using the excuse that it means you 'won't have to pay for drinks' then stumble to the club where the chances of a bouncer letting you in are 50/50, dance until about 4am in a shitty club, scream your lungs out to mr. brightside, leave, get a kebab and then throw it up in the taxi home" the british girl explained, recalling almost every single night out she ever had since the age of 18, earning an appalled look from the others. "well that's not how we do it here" another girl snapped, giving her a 'drinking is a sin' kind of look.
