of course the girl had screamed at ollie for thinking he could control her like that, she didn't want that kind of person to be in her life. he had no say in who she could or could not be friends with and the fact that he thought he did infuriated violet to the point where she was instructing him to never speak to her again and kicking him out of the shop.
"violet you didn't have to choose me over him" david sighed, running to her side and she began to let out all the tears she was hiding from ollie. "david i did not choose you. i did not choose anyone, i would never answer a question as ridiculous and patronising as that" she snapped, running her hand though her hair in frustration, not with david but with herself for snapping at the poor boy who was only trying to comfort her.
"i'm sorry i didn't mean it like that." he sighed, pulling the girl into a hug. "i know you didn't dave, please don't apologise, I'm sorry" she replied, wrapping her hands around his neck and pulling him closer.
"anyway I'm sorry for all the drama, why don't you take a seat and i'll bring you something to drink" she said as the two pulled away from the comforting warmth of one another.
davids feelings for the girl had only gotten stronger these past few weeks, and it was times like these where he felt completely under her spell.
the girl grabbed two slices of cake and two drinks and made her way to davids table, placing everything down before walking back to the counter and quickly returning with her laptop and heavy stack of books in her arms. "heres to productivity" she chuckled as they clinked their cake filled forks together as a toast.
she never realised how fun it would be to have david around whilst she was at work. and at the end of her shift he even helped her clean the tables and mop the floor as they sang to cheesy old school pop music.
"thank you so much for your company and your help" she smiled to the boy beside her as she locked the door and closed the shutters, happy for the day to be finally over and thankful that the cafe shut at 5pm, unlike most she went to. "do you work tomorrow?" david asked, as they climbed into her car that she had reluctantly agreed to have a lift home in. "unfortunately" she groaned, being reminded of how early she would have to wake up without her usual lift from ollie.
"i have a meeting at 7 which is ridiculously early for me so how about you sleep round my house and i give you a lift to work and grab some breakfast there before it starts?" he asked the girl as he drove away, already going in the direction of his house before she could even reply. "are you sure david? we would have to leave at like 5:30" she replied, shocked at the boys kind offer, feeling guilty for even considering it. "natalie is away until monday and she is the person who usually wakes me up for meetings because i literally cannot get out of bed otherwise" he replied honestly , violet didn't have a hard time believing this considering how difficult it would be to wake him up from his naps alone. "fine, but just this once okay?"
david knew that this, although small was one of the ways he could start to repay the girl for all those late nights he had asked her to take before he knew about her work schedule. he wanted to do more for the girl, but to be honest, besides driving her to work tomorrow, didn't even know where to begin.
he wanted to do something insane for her, like buy her a car like he had done for his other friends. he knew from when they went out to bars and clubs that she had a driving license from her using it for id, but he didn't know how long she would even be in this country and he didn't want to ask, knowing that whatever she answered would be to soon.
it was a thought that he often pushed to the back of his mind, but every so often something would remind him, like when she would insist to the group that the uk version of something was better, or when she would reminisce about her friends and memories 'back home'. her time here would inevitably come to an end and it would completely destroy him.
his inner thoughts were eating away at him, causing the car to plummet into silence. "everything alright" violet asked, snapping the boy from his spiralling brain. "when do you go back to england" david suddenly blurted out before he could stop himself. he didn't even want to know the answer to this question.
"well i have almost three months off soon for independent work and internships but because i get my degree from my uk uni i have to do it there so i'll be going home for those but then i will be back for another six to finish the course but then home again for graduation" she replied, trying to hide her sadness as she spoke.
like david, it was something she had tried to forget, but in just a few weeks she would be on a plane back to england and would be away from her friends for months. however that, she told herself she could cope with, it was what happened after she returned to america that kept her up at night. once those six months left on her course were over that was it. she wouldn't have any where near enough money to rent anywhere in la, even if she got a crazy, high paid job she would still have to save up for a deposit somehow. in england, she had the security of moving back in with her mum. she could look for her dream job whilst paying only a small amount of rent to her. but she would have to leave her incredible la life behind.
david never replied, he simply nodded and returned to his thoughts, both their eyes glazing over with tears that threatened to spill any minute.
