The next few days had gone quickly. I rarely saw mom after our encounter and the rare times we did see each other, it was like nothing had happened. Ignoring the problem is the emblem of this family.

Cameron and I didn't see each other while Christmas time since he was busy with family gatherings and I spent my nights watching movies. Lizzy was out of town and I realized how lonely it felt.

Today though is new year's eve and as I prepare myself in the bathroom, I can't help but pat myself on the back for the good work I'm doing without Lizzy. Looking at her doing my hair and makeup sure made me learn some tricks.

I take my cell phone out and take a picture of myself to send Liz. Her answer comes in immediately.

Go get him, girl. While this time I'll be eating deserts and listening to politics.

I laugh as I remember that one time I had accompanied her to her family for a party. Politics seem to be a big subject bringing out big words.

I give my dress one last look. Black with long sleeves and cutting right above the knee. It would do.

I walk out of my bedroom, happy with myself only to meet my mother who's coming up. We both stop when we see each other. She's wearing joggers and a hoodie which is mine because my mother never wears a hoodie.

''What's going on?'' I ask.

She smiles lightly, ''I needed to be comfortable, I'll spend new year's eve with your father.''

I look foreignly at the door at the end of the hallway and nod slowly.

''We met on new year's eve, you know? Right at the countdown. We both had nobody so we kissed and then exchanged numbers. Not that I recommend you do the same.'' She quickly adds.

''Don't worry mom, I won't kiss someone before having their phone numbers.'' I tease and she makes a face. How long had it been since we had a normal conversation like that? I can't remember.

''If you need a lift or anything, you can call me.'' She tells me before walking away. I don't waste any time getting away, scared I might see inside the room if I stay too long.

Just as I'm putting my boots on, I hear a knock at the door. I go get it to find Darwin on the other side, grinning sheepishly.

''Don't you look beautiful!'' He wiggles his eyebrows, ''I know someone who will be drooling all night long.''

''And look at you, all Darwin-like,'' I smirk and he fakes being hurt.

''What's that supposed to mean? Irresistible? Magnificient? Undeniably handsome?''

''Yeah, one of the above.'' I laugh and take my coat, ready to go.

He starts the car and we drive towards Cameron's house.

''So who's going to be there?'' I ask him as I draw on his window some obscenities.

''Football team, basketball team, some cheerleaders and- What are you doing?'' I laugh at his face when he sees my drawings made with the steam on his window. ''How can Cameron deal with you, you're such a child.'' He whines.

''Look who's talking.'' I retort, a grin on my face.

''Well, you're worst than I am.'' He says.

''We should ask Will about that.''

''You're a girl and pretty, of course, he'll side with you.'' He huffs.

Moments later and more insults going back and forth, we arrive at Cameron's. Music is already blaring through speakers and I hope Dimitry is gone with his parents, poor child.
