I think I might do a panic attack as I stand in front of his door. It's already past three o'clock and I wonder if his parents are coming home any sooner.
The words I said last night echo in my head and guilt wash over me once again. How could I be so cruel? He punched Ayden, he didn't kill him.
So I stayed in front of the door another minute, gathering the more strength I could with a pizza in one hand. Boys would eat pizza at any hour of the day, right?
I take in a deep breath and knock. There you go.
''I wondered when you would knock.'' I jump, almost dropping the pizza as I turn around to see Will behind me.
''Will!'' I yell at him, clutching my heart with my free hand.
''He didn't talk about what you said if that's what you're thinking. He's made of stronger stuff than you might think.'' I stare at him stunned.
''Wha-wh-well I-'' My words stumble out of my mouth.
''He'll act as if nothing happened, that's for sure. Now can we get in? The pizza smells delicious.'' With that, he walks past me and opens the door. I join him two seconds too late.
''What were you doing outside?''
''I dropped off Cassie.'' He says shrugging one shoulder like it's nothing but I see the blush taking over his features.
''You've never blushed like that for me.'' I point out as I wiggle my eyebrows.
''You never did for me either.'' Will replies before Darwin barges in, almost running down the stairs. ''Pizza! I knew I'd smell something divine and it certainly wasn't Will.''
I laugh at that before my eyes catch a pair of green eyes. Guilt comes back on again as he just stares at me. I have difficulties maintaining eye contact.
''Where's the peperonni?'' Darwin yells like a girl.
''Dude, she's vegetarian,'' Cameron says as he reaches the last step.
''Right,'' Darwin says nodding knowingly.
''Let's eat that in the living room,'' Cameron says and we all move towards it.
''You already cleaned?'' I ask looking around.
''Yeah... Oh no, don't tell me you wanted to help because I might cry.'' Darwin whines on the couch.
''You just had to stop fooling around with Ayden this morning.'' Will declares which quiets everyone down.
''I didn't-'' I start to explain awkwardly.
''What a party pooper you make Will, no surprise Cassie decided to get back home earlier.'' Darwin rolls his eyes dramatically.
''She works this evening.'' As the two of them continue their bickering, I look over at Cameron on the other couch from Darwin and me. He was staring at the television as if he didn't hear anything we'd said but I knew better.
As the generic of fast and furious rolls down two hours later, the boys decide to leave.
''Need a lift?'' Darwin asks but I shake my head.
''I'll stay a little,'' I say shyly, not knowing if Cameron will be alright with the idea.
''As you wish, see you, next week guys.'' Darwin waves us bye and Will grunts something before disappearing behind the door.
I sigh and turn around to see Cameron already climbing up the stairs.
''Cameron?'' I ask and follow quietly behind. I reach his bedroom right after him.
