Wasting No Time

Third Person's POV

Ash and Dawn sprint outside to the front of the lab. They spread out and face each other in the middle of the street. Professor Rowan walks out a little bit after with a tiny bit less enthusiasm.

"You guys can go through your pokedex to find out their moves," The man states and the two bring out their devices.

"Don't look at Piplup's moves Ash and I won't look at Shinx's!" Dawn yells across their makeshift field. "Let's keep them a surprise."

"They have like two moves each, maybe," Ash laughs. "But okay."

Piplup happily jumps out in front of the blunette while she goes through his moves. "Pound and growl," Dawn mutters to herself. "Shinx has some pretty good moves too." She says a little bit too loud this time.

"Really Dawn?" Ash shakes his head amused.

"My bad," She sweat drops. "They are pretty good though."

"I'm sure Shinx has been getting stronger while helping you guys," The Professor states and steps up to act as the referee. "What moves does Shinx have Ash?"

"Tackle, leer, and charge," Ash answers. "I think we got this, eh Shinx?"

"Shiii," He chirps with his tail wagging back and forth excitedly.

"Cmon Piplup!" Dawn cheers.

"This will be a one on one single battle," Rowan says like an official battle is taking place. "Battle begin!"

"Shinx charge yourself up," Ash smiles confidently. He's the battler of the two so you'd think this should be an easy win.

The flash Pokémon glows a bright yellow and there's electricity shooting out of his fur. The electricity dies down and he shakes himself before looking at Piplup intimidatingly.

"Piplup don't worry," Dawn smiles. "It isn't any stronger than before, you'll just have to hit it harder now. Use pound!"

The penguin Pokémon charges in with one of its small wings glowing. "Dodge then turn around with tackle!" Ash commands.

Shinx waits for the perfect time to dodge but jumps a little bit too late. Piplup clips him and Shinx ends up flipping head first into the street. The electric type slides before getting up and shaking the dust off of his face.

But he should have done it a little faster because Piplup was able to circle around for round two. The water type delivers a hard pound attack that sends Shinx back quite a few metres.

The early morning commotion has ended up bringing a small crowd to the battle. Some people are cheering for Dawn and Piplup who are controlling this battle. While others are cheering for the rare coloured Shinx who is a clear underdog at this point.

"Keep going Piplup!" Dawn cheers while jumping up and down excitedly.

"You got this Shinx," Ash smiles at the Pokémon. "I know you're stronger so show Piplup a full power tackle!"

Shinx gathers all of its energy and collides with Piplup at full speed. A small dust cloud flies up but it doesn't last long enough to hide the two tired Pokémon getting up for one last attack.

"Let's finish this," Dawn states. "Pound!"

"Wait," Ash says as the little blue Pokémon runs forward. "Wait.... Leer now!"

Shinx's eyes glow intimidatingly for a brief second, you wouldn't think it'd be much but Piplup's slight flinch is all Ash needed. "Lunge with tackle!"
