I started worrying more and more as I went through the plan in my mind. I hadn't told anyone about it except for bits and pieces. I paced the length of my room thinking. I had gotten a few messages from Mother telling me that she wanted to meet up again to make sure I wasn't embarrassing her. She set the meeting for next Saturday. It was Monday now. If we did this plan before that meeting, I wouldn't be sure that the incantation would work. I still had to get Luna to try it and I had to tell everyone about the plan. I also had to get everyone in control of speaking Elemental. I figured out that now everyone who was at the gathering could now speak and read Elemental. The first thing I said to all of them was to be wary of warnings in the front of books. I hadn't done much else besides that.
Finally, I decided to go ask Luna to try out the incantation. I found her with the other guys and girls. They guys were teaching the girls to play a video game. "Hey Mitch! Wanna join?" Zana asked me. I was able to tell the twins apart by their personalities. Zana was super cheerful and talkative while Mia was quiet and shy.
"Sorry, but I actually want to steal Luna away for a while," I responded.
"Looks like we're all taking a break," Derek said, shutting off the game system. "Mitch, before you do whatever it is you're planning, we need to talk."
"About what?" I groaned. I took a seat on the couch and put my notebook on my lap.
"Even though your mental wall is in place, I can sense how worried you are," Derek replied. "You need to calm down."
I laughed. "Sorry to say, worried and angry is my natural state. 'Calm' is just something that I show to the world so no one asks questions."
"Oh fuck off with that talk!" Derek yelled. He grabbed my arm and dragged me away from the group. He walked us all the way to my room and slammed the door closed. "If you haven't noticed, everyone here cares about you. You need to stop shutting everyone out and let us fucking help you."
"Again, sorry, but that's not in my nature. Whether I give a shit or not, it's a habit for me to shut all of you out. I grew up thinking that if I let anyone care for me the way my parents did, I would just end up hurting them." My blood was boiling. I knew that I was worrying everyone. The majority have told me so themselves. But the problem was that no one understood how bad I was trying. I was used to having to do everything on my own. Back home, Luna had a personal life with friends that she hung out with. I, on the other hand, was the resident school idiot. I couldn't use magik and I never defended myself in any way during fights. It got to the point where the teachers stopped putting me in sparring matches.
I let my mental wall fall to show Derek how much I actually was trying. His eyes widened as he started to feel what I felt. After a few minutes, I put the wall back up to shield him from my emotions.
"Sorry..." Is all he said. The blood had drained from his face and it was etched with shock. "I didn't know... I'm sorry..." He sat on my bed.
I sighed, trying to control my emotions. "Don't worry. I should be the one apologizing for doing that."
"No. I'm glad you did. I didn't realize how much you were actually doing. Talking with us is probably out of your comfort zone, but we've been forcing you to deal with us." He said.
"It's whatever," I said. I was used to being put out of my comfort zone. I was actually surprised that that ended the argument. I pulled him to his feet. "We should go back. I just got a new idea." He nodded and I led us back to the living room. Luckily, Derek's sisters didn't feel my emotions.
"Are you two alright now?" Nik asked nervously.
Derek cleared his throat. "Yeah..."
"Back to why I came out here," I said. "While yelling at Derek, I just thought about how the incantation I created needed to be used. Since it needs to be constantly chanted, my idea of Luna using it has gone out the door. And then I remembered Derek and Nik saying that they both can use defensive spells. Which one of you is the more powerful caster?"
