I pulled up to my drive way and parked. I grabbed my milkshake from White Castle and hopped out.

"Come inside, take off your clothes, I'll make you feel at home. Now let's pour a glass of wine cuz now we're all alone. I been waiting all night so just let me hold you close to me-

"Cuz I been dying for you girl to make loveeee to meeee." A voice cut me off.

I looked over at Devante's porch, where he stood with a leather vest and no shirt beneath it, grinning ear to ear.

"It wasn't meant to be a duet." I smiled.

"Good. I'm more of a Boyz II Men fan anyways." He shrugged.

"You could've fooled me. What you doing out here?" I walked over to where he stood.

"I heard you pulling in. I figured I'd make sure you get in safely." He dimmed his eyes.

"What would I do without you.." I sarcastically spoke.

"Where's your niece?"

"With her mama."

"So you ain't busy right now?" Devante eyed me.

"I had a date with this milkshake..." I shrugged.

"You wanna come in?" He asked.

"Man, I don't know you." I furrowed my eyebrows.

"You're right. Now let me ask you this. Would you like to get to know me ?"

I scanned his face for seriousness.

God, he looked good.

"Perhaps.." I let out.

"Come in..." Devante stepped aside.

I hesitated.

"No funny business, I swear." He reassured.

I stepped in. His home was nice and simple- you could tell it needed a woman's touch.

"Cute."  I spoke as I sucked on the straw of my milkshake.

"See? I ain't no creep. I just do things at weird times. Spontaneous is the word." He gave a nervous laugh.

"You live alone, huh?" I looked around.

"Yeah, my folks are  originally from Stamford. I came up here for school. Plus, I like the fast life." Devante shrugged.

"You got any family here? Is this ya mama?" I picked up a picture of him and and a woman that resembled Loretta Devine.

"Yeah that's my heart. My grandma and my cousins live downtown-"  Devante was interrupted by a soft knock on his door.

He made a confused face then walked over to it with my nosey ass close by.

"Who the-?" He spoke before opening the door.

A fair-skinned woman with micro braids stood with a smile on her face and freshly baked cookies in her hands.

"Hi I'm Latisha, I live two houses down. I noticed you moving in some time ago and I wanted to offer a warm welcome." She held a hand out as she bit her lip.
