It was about 3 am and I woke up to Pac silently rapping and cradling Kaine in the moonlight.
I remember Marvin Gaye used to sing to me
He had me feelin' like black was the thing to be
And suddenly the ghetto didn't seem so tough
And though we had it rough, we always had enough... He rocked back and forth as our bundle of joy smiled up at him.My sanity had finally returned to its original state and I couldn't have been happier, all that I had went through made this moment right here, worth it.
"Keep yoo head up." I sang, startling Pac a bit.
"Heyyyyy, look who's up! Look who's interrupting our man time, Kaine, look at mommy with her fine self!" He danced over to me.
"Hi baby," I kissed his forehead.
"How you feeling, mamas? I can go downstairs and get you a snack if you want. You thirsty?" He asked all at once.
"I'm fine, Tupac. Can I mack with my boys for a bit before you go tryna throw food at me?" I smirked.
"I'm trying to give you another baby quite frankly. I thought I'd start by offering you a snack. I'm trying, Mo." Pac joked, causing me to nudge him.
"For real Monika, thank you. I have never wanted anything more in my life. Once I figured out you were pregnant, everything had to change faster than I was already trying for. I had to change gears and make it my duty to protect you and him. All of us. I can't apologize enough for all that I've put you through baby but I can promise, it's all over. For good. You saved all of us by destroying that evil shit Suge wore around his neck. I know you ain't choose this life but it had to have chose you because you played the fuck out of your part. You're a fucking beast, Mo. I really couldn't have chosen a better woman to bear the life of my child. This little boy is perfection right next to his mama. I love you with every cell that runs through my body, woman." Tupac spoke to me with misty eyes.
"I love you, too." I rubbed his chin.
Pac stared in my eyes for what felt like eternity, then he finally looked down at his pup.
"You know, Kaine done had his hand balled up for the longest and I been tryna get him to loosen up. Maybe he'll open it for you?"
I held my arms open to take him from Pac.
I laid him down next to me and his tiny hand was in a tight fist for sure."Let mommy see how strong you are..." I said as I tickled him a bit causing him to babble, kick, and smile. He was such a happy baby already and it melted my heart. I was beyond thankful that I had given birth to a healthy child, because a bitch like myself was stressed, okay?
Kaine really wasn't opening them hands of his but I kissed on them until he did. Something of metallic feeling fell out and slightly hit my lip, causing me to gasp.
"What was that?! What was in his hands?!" I panicked as I looked for it.
I searched and searched until I came across it and it was a ring.
"Oh my God..." I gazed at it.
"Tupac... is this-" I looked up to see Pac on one knee with Kaine in his arms.
"Nigga when did you even pick Kaine back up?" My eyes darted back and forth between him and the spot he had just been laying in.
"You a ride or die if I've ever seen one. There's no way I can go another day on this earth without you as my wife. Will you marry me, Monika Allen?" Tupac let a single tear roll down his cheek.
"Boy, get your ass up... do you see this ring?" I rushed to put it on and it fit perfectly. "Do you see your son? I'm already your wife and taking your last name too." I got off the bed and stood up in front of him.
Kaine looked annoyed at how much his daddy was moving and I couldn't help but laugh. Pac was clearly attached to his son and I loved it. I loved them.
"For the first time since my daddy died... I feel complete. This is what I needed. You never had to ask if I'd marry you, boo, all you had to do was show up." I spoke.
"I never intended on not showing up baby girl. So do I call you Mrs. Shakur now?" Pac got up and planted a soft kiss on my lips.
"Monika Shakur. It has a ring to it." I grinned from ear to ear.
"So does your left finger." He added.
"We finally made it, Tupac. We've been through so much trickery, so much betrayal, so much bullshit... so many-"
"Changez?"
"Yeah, changez."
"That's just the way it is, huh?" Pac smirked.
"Yup and I thank God, things will never be the same."
