The next morning at work I sleepily headed along the corridor to the make up room having had such a deep sleep full of gorgeous dreams of my gorgeous man. I was still so tired and wanted to go back to bed, ideally with him, but I'd see him again soon.
I heard footsteps quicken behind me and then felt a little pat on my bottom. I looked both ways to check the coast was clear then turned to wrap my arms around him.
"That was a bit naughty!" I giggled into his neck and kissed his freshly shaved jaw. "I thought we weren't doing this here."
"I know but it's just us and I couldn't help myself." he said, running his fingers through my hair and kissing me on the lips.
"Go and get into costume then come to see me." I said and, feeling bold, gave his bottom a firm squeeze.
He gasped and looked shocked before he turned and headed back in the other direction.
In the make up room everyone was talking about their break. Someone asked if I'd had a good New Years. I avoided eye contact and tried not to blush as I said I'd had a quiet night in. It was true, I just left out that I wasn't alone or even at my apartment. Most people had spent the break with their families. One of the girls had gotten engaged. We all gathered around and admired her ring.
Our first week as a couple went quietly and uneventful. Sometimes I'd get a cheeky text from Josh to meet at his dressing room. I'd knock on the door, then he's grab me by the arm and almost drag me into the room for a crazed make out.
On the Wednesday night he came to my place with sushi for us, Sweeney and food for Sweeney.
On the Friday however there was chatter when I got to the make up room that were hushed to whispers when I arrived. I tried to catch what they were saying but either way I knew I was going to be anxious all day. Someone must have seen us together. I would loose my job or be gossiped about as the slut who couldn't keep her hands off the celebrity. By the time Josh turned up in costume I was on the verge of a panic attack and he could tell.
"I think they know." I whispered to him.
"It's ok. That's not going to change us." he told me reassuringly then pulled me into a hug.
I took a deep breath of his aftershave and tried not to panic.
I spent the rest of the morning jumping at small noises and feeling on the verge of tears. Just before lunch I found a magazine in the make up room that had a little picture of Josh and a blacked out figure in one corner. There was a headline about his "new love". I trembled as I turned to the advertised page. I looked at the blurry photos of Josh, Sweeney and his mysterious new girlfriend and gave a sigh of relief when I realised my face was obscured, blurry or unrecognisable in the photos. I'd just happened to tuck my hair up in my woolly hat on New Years Day and pulled it down to my eyebrows for warmth and then wrapped my scarf up to my chin. It had also been quite bright so I'd put my sunglasses on, meaning most of my face was obscured anyway.
"Oh honey, I'm sorry you had to find out this way." one of the girls said and gave me a hug.
"What?" I asked, quite confused.
"I know you like Josh. I'm sorry you had to find out he's got a girlfriend." she said.
"Oh no no, it's not like that." I stuttered. I wasn't lying.
"Don't worry, I won't tell him." she nodded and left.
I sat down next to Josh at an empty table in the lunch room feeling noticeably lighter.
"False alarm!" I whispered. "There's photos but you can't tell it's me."
He smiled and put his arm across the back of my chair, giving my shoulders a little rub and was about to say something. Monica sat down almost immediately and held up her phone in front of her.
